My question is what is Paul doing in the race? He has no chance.

Helping his buddy Romney and proving a point.

NOYB.

I will say I voted for Bush in 2004 on a provisional ballot when I was Brazil.  That entire election came down to OH  (fairly typical as OH has voted for the ultimate winner of every election for the past 100+ years besides JFK) of which it was too close to call until they started counting the provisional ballots, so that was neat.

Yes, anybody can vote for anyone.  Which is why Clinton beat Obama in the '08 primaries :D

OH is looking interesting with the urban centers (CAK/CLE/CMH/CVG) all leaning towards Romney and the rest of the state going for Santorum so far.
http://www.cnn.com/election/2012/primaries/county/map/r/oh?hpt=hp_pc1

CNN is showing Santo with a small lead, but I bet Romney still pulls it out:
Santorum
107,206
39%

Romney
101,203
36%

Gingrich
42,156
15%

Paul
23,562
8%

Over 14K now...
AP/CNN may not be calling OH for Romney just yet, but you heard it here first, OH has gone for Romney as I predicted earlier :D

Does any of this really matter? If unemployment keeps improving it is all over.

That's a big if.
Anyway the whole thing will likely boil down to FL and OH again, so the only numbers that matter are foreclosures and unemployment in those states, not nationwide.  And they ain't pretty.

This could turn out to be another Reagan vs. Carter. Remember how they thought that would be a close one? The republicans have to wake up. When you have someone like Rush calling a girl a “slut” because she believes in birth control you better speak up.

I don't think it will come down to FL and OH only (though those 2 are very important). Remember Obama opened a whole new front out west against what was (sort of) safe Republican states like CO, NV. Those states are real toss-ups now and they will also be a big factor. On the other hand I think Republicans will be able to make a serious play for states like WI, MN, maybe even MI and PA. And they need to take back IN, VA, and NC (they will) if they are to stand any chance

2008 was a unique case as there as an extraordinary amount of hate for anything that said (R) on the ticket after 8 years of Bush and states that had been red became blue.  I don't think 2012 will be the same.
