Although we were told that only Israeli citizens can get a Noar/Youth rate Rav Kav, if you get a picture card linked to passport number it can be converted later online to Noar/Youth.

Can someone purchase a Rav Kav in Ben Gurion airport upon arrival?
If yes, how about one with a picture?
Thanks.

Yes & yes.

Highly recommend this option. The lines everywhere else can be insane.

Is there any advantage to a picture one for someone that is 18 or over?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

You can only load unlimited passes to ones with a picture.

You mean the daily 12.50 NIS unlimited?

If lost, you can transfer the balance to a new card (so I'm told).

I thought that with the new system, and using the mobile app it calculates automatically and gives you the best deal based on use.

That being said, I loaded mine on my daughter's phone for her recent trip, and it seemed to do that on a daily basis, but not give her the monthly rate which would have been better.

If lost, you can transfer the balance to a new card (so I'm told).

That might be correct, but if not discounts then why carry a balance? Just link it to a mobile app and get charged best rate (ostensibly).

@ExGingi I suppose you’re right, though I’ve never bothered with the app (and also not practical if traveling as a family).

A lot of Chareidim don't have smartphones, hence no apps.

There's a few different apps that you can use for busses/trains. Not sure what the difference between them is.

I ordered a picture Rav Kav online before my trip to Israel a few months ago and it worked great. They shipped it directly to the place I was staying for 10 NIS. No charge for the actual card.

Then you won't have it for the train from the airport (which you can pay with credit card anyway) & at the airport there's no 10 NIS shipping fee.

You can use the app Moovit to pay from your phone. I don't have any personal experience but I know people who said it works well.
