Serious question shouldn't you get a refund if you miss your flight

When you buy anything else in life do you get the taxes back if you don't use the item? You bought a seat on the flight. Whether you use it or not is up to you, but why should you get any taxes back for not using it?

Am I missing something here?

Am I missing something here?

Some airlines let you refund taxes even when the ticket is non refundable.

While I haven't tried it on domestic flights, I've seen it done on Norwegian, BA and others.
Make stuff happen.

the taxes are belonging to the airports, the airlines are collecting it on behalf of the airports & they need to to forward it to the airports, so if the pax are not travelling for any reason, why should the airline keep the money, which is not belonging to them at all?

Try reporting it to the DOT. Let's see what they rule. Common sense says that it should be refunded.

+1, though I think those taxes are owed as long as the ticket isn't refunded.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Then it makes sense that they should be refunded :)

My understanding is that tax isn't paid by the airline based on actual travel, but rather based on average loads. That being said, I still think you should be refunded for not flying
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

Reading the fare rules of a BA flight and it seems they should refund taxes and other fees in case of no show or cancellation.

wow, surprised no one here ever thought ab out this.
always something to learn...
on a flight to tlv, taxes can be a huge part of the ticket, being able to get that refunded, would be HUGE.

Had same fare rules with LX booked through Chase and they refused to refund taxes for cancellation.

the way the ticket prices are broken down, sometimes the fees are more than the actual ticket price. if fees were refunded it would be a game changer

When PS had $300 nonrefundable tickets to TLV last year, I got refunded about $290 for taxes and YQ.  :)

When LX had the J fares ZRH-TLV RT the fare was $87 and the taxes and YQ were $280. Filed with DOT. Lets see what they say.

If you buy an item and return it, you are refunded taxes.

If Amazon decides to refund you without making you return it, they refund sales tax too. .

If you can't make a flight and call for a refund, you should get the taxes back.
