I mean it was pretty obvious that the flu would practically disappear as predicted below (not a navi FYI) and I'm sure by many others. We literally have single days with more confirmed COVID deaths than flu deaths in an entire YEAR. And that's with all the SD and safety measures taken, as mentioned above.

..on a annualized basis would mean 10x more people died from covid than the total flu hospitalizations in a regular year. All this despite social distancing the last 4 months which would bring flu hospitalization numbers to record lows.

The main lesson here is that there is no way to compare suffering. You can't assume someone has it easier/harder just because they are rich/poor, or because they live in a city/suburb, or are in a blue/red state, or any other things we tend to generalize about.

True, and the same way we can’t comprehend horrifics like the holocaust or people who were abused R”L. However, there is a big difference between assuming something with certainty  about a specific person, and a statistical likelihood that more x people are n than y people are n, which would accurately change the probability of any individual person being n.

There have been many studies conducted attempting to objectively quantify and compare happiness, suffering, regret, pain, fear, etc. but of course there are limitations.

Daniel Kahneman writes a nice amount about this in “Thinking, Fast and Slow”.

what a person has or where they are or what the people around them claim to be experiencing.
