wait there is a way to approach this issue without yelling at people? I remember davening in a shul that had a no collectors during davening policy to help enhance the atmosphere. One time someone came in to collect and halfway through was thrown out by a member yelling and shouting at him for coming in during davening. I wonder which was more of a distraction to the kehilla and if the davening of that tzibbur accomplished anything that day.

Similar story happened when I was a child. Not sure what the commotion was actually about. But a gabbai was yelling at a meshulach. The guy just stood there for a minute, then left. My father turned to me and said "i'm so jealous of that meshulach right now, he was just Koineh all the gabbai's oilam habbah so quickly!" Left a big impact on me

Talking of a no collecting policy. Famous story of the Noda B'Yehuda. The Kehila asked him to sign a new takana that collectors shouldn't be allowed to go around to collect, as it disturbs the people, one who want's to give Tzadaka should go over to them. So he looked at the sheet and said "This isn't a new takana which needs my signature, it's an old takana from the וועד ארבע ארצות", when he saw how they looked at him surprised, he explained "Yes, from סדום ועמורה אדמה וצבויים.."

Me? I'm very bad at dragging my tush to shul. I also have very bad ADD.

I go most weeks Shabbat. I used to love prayers at the kotel and mearat hamachpela. Personally standard chabad prayers aren't my style, need chabad house or young Israel.

It is what it is. when we moved to the new building where did the beginning we started a policy that nobody's allowed to go in or out during the rabbi's speech..

You would be amazed at how people really didn't get it for the first 25 times.

In addition it was a big problem of people going in and out during aliyos. So we instituted that you can only go in and out in between aliyos.

This is the policy in young Israel I grew up davening at.

I much rather someone sit in shul and read John grisham during davening than talk.
