for mincha? its not hard, for shachris on shabbos you suffocate
hundreds (thousands ?) Of people doing just that 3 times a day. Not that difficult. No one's insisting on a (k)n95. Just a regular cloth or surgical mask suffices.

Can anyone please explain why it would be so hard to put in a mask when davening indoors?
I guess it depends on each person, I know many who are planning on staying in an outside minyan that allows after proper social distancing one does not have to wear a mask at their place, then to come inside until it safe to w/o a mask.
Personally I find it difficult to wear one properly more than 15 minutes.

I have a hard enough time wearing in stores, I usually open it up to get a few breaths in every few minutes when no one is around.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

I agree. I would stay at an outdoor minyan without a mask if that was still an option in my neighborhood.

i had my mask on from 6 AM to 11:30 and read the Torah for 3 minyanim one after another this week and did not come close to suffocating. And you can wear a 3 ply mask that won’t bother you at all

Think about all the healthcare workers and food service workers who have to wear a mask all day long. (Ye, some of them cheat but many don't)

Not all people are created equal (as in having identical anatomy), and not all masks are created equal.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

*aren't using common sense. I think he does mean that
Shuls have been open for about three to four weeks or longer depending on location including shavuos. There has not been an uptick in cases. One may argue that common sense dictates a mask is no longer necessary.

Regarding what common sense dictates, yes there is much to debate.

I can tell you that the masks they give out in CHOP are a whole different breed from the 3-ply masks being sold. They are thicker but also hold their structure better. They also don't feel like they are pulling your ear off.

Exactly. Which is why I think (even though I'd usually advocate for the free market to reign) that the government should be supplying masks (as they do in Singapore). If I had a choice in the store and was able to try on several masks before I buy (and if the price wouldn't be a total ripoff), I would say let's buy them on the free market. But when all I can do is buy whatever is being sold, without the ability to choose the quality, and at ripoff prices. I'd rather keep my distancing, and wear a mask only when absolutely required (i.e. whenever I have no other option).

Do you have any insight into WHY people in those two neighborhoods might be acting differently?
