get at least an intermediate.  U will be happier with the space of a bigger car

Get a compact. Then, if they don't just give you an intermediate without you asking, ask for one and probably they'll let you have it for another 5 bucks a day. Worse comes to worst, you still fit in the compact.

Obviously there in an inherent risk in booking the compact.
It's hard to give advice without knowing all the parameters.
Some things to consider:
How long will you be keeping the car for?
How much time do you plan to spend in the car?
Will you fit in the front seat with the two car seats in the back?
Will the trunk accommodate your two suitcases?
How much is the difference in price? It's usually only a couple of bucks.

Also consider that booking an intermediate if you're going with Hertz, as that gives you Gold Choice options.

I usually reserve a compact and most of the times they don't have one so they bump you up to a bigger one or if they do happen to have compact you either sweet talk your way into an upgrade or you just pay the few dollars more per day.

I tried that in BNA. I even told them I'm going out with my fiancé (which was true), and they didn't go for it. I got the last compact in the lot (Volkwsgon Beetle). :(
