Lab leak?

Not an intentional lab leak or bioweapon, which I believe is extremely unlikely. I was referring to this: https://asiatimes.com/2020/02/coronavirus-lab-leakage-rumors-spreading/

Quote
Richard Ebright, a biology professor at Rutgers University in New Jersey, told the BBC that genomic sequencing of the coronavirus showed no proof that it had been artificially modified, yet he could not rule out the possibility that the unfolding pandemic could be the result of a “lab incident.”

Ebright said the coronavirus was a cousin of one found in bats captured by the institute in caves in the southwestern province of Yunnan in 2003, and that samples had been kept in the Wuhan lab since 2013.

Also, a paper that appeared in the prestigious medical journal The Lancet at the end of last month has lent credibility to speculation about the origins of the virus. The paper quoted seven doctors at Wuhan’s Jinyintan Hospital as saying that the first patient admitted on December 1 had “never been to the wet market,” nor had there been any epidemiological link between the first patient and subsequent infection cases, based on the data from the first 41 patients treated there.

Furthermore, a note from the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology is seen as a tacit admission that some kind of incident may have occurred at the Wuhan lab.

On Saturday, the ministry issued a directive mandating more stringent handling of viruses and bioagents by all labs and research institutes. The document alluded to the slack oversight and management rampant at some facilities, and stressed that protection and decontamination must be beefed up now that more labs across the nation are intensifying their efforts to develop medicines to treat it and a vaccine to prevent it.

However a new report came out that traces wuhan coronavirus patients from earlier in November, now we to find out if they had any history with the wet markets.

Please change topic to "What are we going to do until Chol Hamoed??".

Can we all stop hocking about infection rates, death rates and all the he said/she said about they should close, they should've closed, the didn't close fast enough etc...

Instead, can we all brainstorm together about what to do with all the kids that are now home literally all day for next 3 weeks?

We can't go out to eat, we can't go to a museum or similar. Outdoor activities are weather dependent and today was rather chilly. Getting together with friends is a no-no.

I know dan posted this which is great but most of those are screen time.

Today was spent coloring, playing with play doh, playing with perler beads, and watching some of the suggested items from the above post.

What's on tomorrow's itinerary?  :-\ :-\
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

The first thing is to plan in advance. Teach about the parsha, davening, Pesach, They should "help" prepare for pesach. Set some time for playing alone and then after xx amount of time do a project. Make a Haggada, kittle, matzo cover, etc with them. Basically Morah Mommy or Rebbi Totty.

I don’t either like screen time. But it’s going to be unavoidable, especially if there’s a lockdown.

Is it completely insane to take a road trip now? Camp in the back of the car, bring along all food, do only outdoor nature activities, etc.

Not taking into account possible curfews and travel restrictions for now.

Ppl I know that travel to Miami for pesach every year and have there own house.
Are thinking of driving down now as kids are already anyway home.
Only concern is if food will last since they cant bring along enough food in the car.

I think that is a good idea. The one drawback is if someone catches the virus.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Yup.

My mother is in self-quarantine now (she's high risk) so we'd have to be back at least two weeks before Pesach if we want to go to here. But I think overall this might work.

With kids home now, teach about pesach. Make a fun project they can be busy with for hours. Someone I know took a grocery box and turned it into a "Matza oven". The kids spent many happy hours "baking" play do matzas...

Are you concerned about yourself or about spreading the virus everywhere you go?

I'm considering a road trip to California, my concern is really the latter.

My concern is the former. Obviously if I have even the slightest suspicion that I have it the only place I'm going is quarantine.

Everyone should share how they made it through day one, and we can all do each others ideas. Should keep going for a few days at least. (I hope....)

Except you won't know until it's too late.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.
