Check this out:

Planning Avios-sponsored tour of the US this summer with my wife. Tentative Itinerary, pending availability:

NYC - Miami - Atlanta - St. Louis - NYC
<breathe>
NYC - Dallas - Grand Canyon area (airport???) - LA - Vancouver (not US, I know) - NYC

Any thoughts, tips, or gaonishe chaps would be appreciated.

NYC-Miami might be cheaper using jetblue etc.
Grand canyon area is LAS, PHX, or TUS. This also might be cheaper with Southwest from DFW.
PHX-LAX is a 6 hour drive. There are often great deals on one way car rental from out of CA into CA or vice versa, so u might wanna drive.
If you go to Vancouver you should probably also go to Seattle, which is 2 hours away.

I don't know why you're going to Atlanta (unless you have family).

If I were you New Orleans is a must. Cheap hotels and don't need a car. Go there with AA from DFW.

There are threads about most of the above destination where you will find a vast pool of knoweldge.

Have you checked availability yet? It can be pretty scarce during the summer
For instance, there is not a single available direct flight NYC-mia the first week in July (I didn't check more but in assume it's more of the same)

Thanks. I'm trying not to spend much $ on airfare, so I'd rather not pay out of pocket for airfare. I have SW miles as well, so I'll look into that for Grand Canyon area.
Is PHX-LA a nice drive? I may do that if I find a good deal.
My wife wants to see Atlanta for a day or two. NO sounds cool, though.
You cant use avios for lax-sea or even yvr...
Shoot, really? Why is that? I guess I'll have to check SW or United (though I was saving up United miles to go to Israel)
Have you checked availability yet? It can be pretty scarce during the summer

Uh oh. Looks like I need to start checking availability asap. Otherwise I'll have to shell out out of pocket.

Let me elaborate. Arriving in PSA on Sunday morning. Going to check out the leaning tower, then driving straight to Rome. Staying in Rome for two full days, and leaving Tuesday night. I think 2 full days im Rome should be enough for me...

@shmelive - you can find cheap one ways to sea from lax or even yvr...AA doesnt fly LAX-SEA only Alaska Air but that doesnt help as far as Avios...you can try SW as well...it wouldnt be worth your UA miles for that segment especially if saving up for Israel...

Availability on Alaskan for that route is quite good. You can also use Delta.com to search

You use DL.com to search before AA.com  :o
