Why? this is not the first time the world experienced a pandemic.
It's the first time in generations.
More importantly, it's the first time in the jet age.

It’s the first time the developed world (with aviation where it is now, and other factors) has.
Exactly. It's a game changer when you have nonstop flights to everywhere in the world flying into JFK and LAX daily.

It seems inevitable so why has Ohio announced closure for the remainder of the year before NY/NJ?
I doubt they’ll announce it a second sooner then they have too. Cuomo is also probably waiting to see the results of the statewide antibody test they are doing this week

Public schools go to May, it's still a minor possiblity the Jewish schools open in June.

Just going down this path for one minute.. what’s so bad about medium term distance only learning? They can get really good at it really fast if there’s a true need.

It's bad if your school refuses to do any video conferencing and is generally not doing a great job with distance learning.

Keep dreaming. Seems like opening in the fall is a long shot.

Exactly. We don't still have Cholera floating about
I read that the much of the flu we have today (all influenza type A) can be traced back to the 1918 spanish flu pandemic.

Thanks NY  ::)

As our community celebrates Yom Tov, we now focus on reopening school after Succos vacation. With Rabbinical and medical guidance, and in collaboration with likeminded schools across the country, we deem it necessary to delay the restart of in person school from Tuesday, October 13 to Monday, October 19, 2020. In an abundance of caution, school will be closed during that time to allow for an assessment of the COVID status in our school community and to see the results of potential Yom Tov and travel exposure or symptoms. Remote learning (varied by division but internet will not be required) will be provided during this cautionary period and details will be emailed to parents on Monday.

...

4)      Any Academy family who is traveling must be back in town by Monday night, October 12. If a family does not return to the Cleveland area by Monday night, regrettably their children will be unable to begin school with their peers on Monday, October 19. We are unable to be flexible with this as it could potentially place many families at risk.

So... a family with a child in my kid's class was in BP for YT. The father is positive. Looks like delaying the start of school and making everyone test was the right call. Mind you, the kids were playing with everyone in the neighborhood over shabbos, so we'll see how that goes. But yea... thanks NY.

Sorry. Just making y'all feel better about the decision to delay school for a few days.

HAC closed for 2 weeks.
I wonder how long 2 weeks will become?

I hope not as long as the original 2 weeks to flatten the curve.
