I booked a BA award on AA a few days ago and everything was fine, my miles were debited and the taxes charged. Today, a day before my flight, I saw on "manage my booking" that my flight was canceled. I checked on AA and the flight wasn't actually canceled.
I called BA and they said my 'flight' (reservation) was canceled, and it was never even ticketed, because AA was missing information. The issue here is that there aren't any more award seats left on the flight and I need to be on that specific flight. They wanted to put me on a different flight or have me upgrade and pay the mileage difference. I said it was their system's fault because I had filled out everything they asked for, had a BA booking reference, and already had my miles and taxes debited! After an hour (!) of back and forth, waiting on hold, being transferred to Executive Club, etc, they finally offered to get me a paid seat on that flight - not as an award. They said I'd be emailed the new information.
A few minutes latter I saw the new flight on my BA booking reference (the previous one is still there, crossed out in red). Many hours later and I still haven't received an email from them. It is less than 24 hours before the flight and AA won't let me check in.
I called AA reservations, told them the whole story and the woman there confirmed I was on the AA manifest for that flight. But we wanted to be sure, and I was wondering why I couldn't check in; so I waited on hold while she spoke to AA ticketing, and then we both waited on hold (close to 20 min) while ticketing spoke to BA. The message passed back, and the rep at reservations doesn't understand it herself, is that I'm still not ticketed and need to call BA reservations back and ask them to call their AA liaison.
Anyone have any input before I head back into the lions den?
