Note that all sAAver flights available on AA.com are able to be booked on BA.  When there are many flights on one day, they may not all be listed on BA.com.  So you will have to call to book it.  Get the phone fee waved because it wasn't able to be booked on line.

NOTE: Household accounts will not allow transfers from Iberia to BA. Make sure you don't have a household account, and if you do, split it up.

NOTE: When booking, erase your Avios number when entering your passenger information. This will make it much simpler to add your AA Advantage number at a later time.

CX is the same record locator as BA.
It didn't bring up anything. Does it take time for BA to transfer the data to CX?

Quick question: I am booking a  Avios ticket for American Airlines flight, and i have a 10 month old baby, is it necessary to select 1 adult, and 1 baby? Because the avios goes up from 7500 to 8250... Let me know your experience as well...Thanks!

No. Book just for yourself and then call American to add the baby for $17
And if the first rep is clueless, HUCA.

Not exactly.. Is it a domestic flight or to Canada? No payment needed for the baby.

Thanks to some excellent advice over on the Spain trip-planning thread, I'm looking to use Avios for intra-Spain flights, e.g., MAD-SVQ or MAD-AGP, and AGP-BCN. Also interested in DUB-MAD and BCN-Paris (obvsiously these are not intra-Spain).

I'm seeing 2 seats available in Y on many flights, but we need 5 seats.  What's the chance I could book two seats on a given flight, and then hope that Iberia (or Aer Lingus) repopulates the award availability with 2 more (and then 1 more) seat soon thereafter? I don't think I have the constitution to book half of us now and wait until the last minute to book the others in our group.

Thanks in advance for your perspectives.

If your flights tend to be within the US (or within Europe) then BA is king.  In the US they put you on AA planes using (far) fewer points than AA charges for their own planes.  I don't know which partner they use in Europe, but the BA award flights are likewise a great buy.
It sounds like you'd benefit from crediting today's miles to Iberia - for both your bonus and to 'activate' your Iberia account. BA needs no activation to transfer to Iberia and back.
Really depends if you usually fly short haul or long haul and whether there is a stopover.  BA is distance based. For short haul they are king.  So e.g. if you fly NYC-LAX it will be 12.5 with both. But if you have a stopover e.g. NYC-ORD-LAX then it will be 17.5 (or maybe as cheap as 14.5 and as expensive as 20, depending where the stop is. With AA anywhere in USA is always 12.5 with Saver (BA only has access to Saver anyway).  BA has better cancellation fees in USA.  But AA has free changes.
OTOH looking at your screen name, maybe you fly more in Europe, which probably leans toward BA, though they charge fuel surcharges.

Intra europe the low cost carriers give competition to any mileage redemption

True.  But OP wants to bank his miles somewhere and the question was BA vs AA.  Intra Europe I'd assume BA wins easily.  BA also has Reduced Flight Saver option on some short haul flights in Europe that charge a nominal fee instead of the real (expensive) fuel surcharges and taxes and departure fees.  This makes it somewhat competitive even with low cost carriers, especially if you want premium cabins.  Plus, with Iberia Avios you get additional options.
