One of my friends was exposed to a confirmed case, got the symptoms, and so did his family members. But since he lives in NJ, he can’t get tested. One testing place said they won’t tell him the testing requirements, another told him he has to be 65+.

Friend is an ER doc:

I can't say for sure, but seems in line with my experience at the ER.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

I wish they would use easy to understand words. Going to bet many do not know what asymptomatic means.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

That might also assume "a symptomatic" and also might not know what "symptomatic" means. We our (just for you) not all as smart as you.

Presumably the people working in an ER should understand this.

I will guess they will explain in simple terms.

Or just think the person pronounced "symptomatic" funny. Especially when they talk quickly.

How may people know that "astigmatism" is not "a stigmatism"?
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Why do you think they even bother to explain anything. They just follow their procedures and don't spend too much time with you other than administering whatever tests they decide to do, and interview you about your symptoms and medical history.

Just looked at my discharge papers from last night, and they show I was negative for Influnenza-A and B. I would assume that ruling out those leaves the probable diagnosis as COVID-19.

Thanks. They said they're running low and not taking any more appointments for testing right now.

Any other places out there?

How long after being exposed to someone that tested positive does it make sense to get tested?
I want to give it enough time to incubate but also want to start the 10 day count for isolation sooner if I test positive.

Interesting question would doing a rapid Covid test be able to differentiate if one has covid or a different virus?
I am assuming it just shows if a person is viral.
Any educated thoughts here?

Antigen (rapid) tests look for viral particles which are specific to covid.

False positives are (supposedly) very rare with antigen tests.

Can it differentiate whether virus is active or dead?

Two of my kids went to the doctor last week and had COVID-19 tests as well as throat cultures.  Both said that the throat culture was way worse.  I found that rather interesting.  For those that tested in March/April and again recently, has the swabbing gotten more tolerable?
