To cancel a flight booked through Amex travel with points do you call Amex or the airline (AA). Should I expect a refund?
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Need to call Amex usually only it's Delta which tends to help.

Lets say you got into that room. What would you demand from the airlines?

"Create a traveler's bill of rights in exchange for bailing out airlines and hotels"

Airlines and hotels are seeking billions in bailouts. We the taxpayer want in return:
1. Ban hotel resort/destination fees
2. Cash refunds when airlines cancel/change flights
3. Passenger rights like EU261 with cash payments for delayed/cancelled flights
4. Remove slot controls so more airlines can compete
5. Ban basic economy fares that dehumanize travel
6. Don’t charge families to sit together
7. A free checked and carry-on bag
8. Mileage program devaluations need to be announced 6 months in advance and award charts must be published
9. Ban fuel/carrier imposed surcharges
10. Regulate seat pitch/width and bathroom size
11. Remove Deregulation Act protections so airlines can be sued
12. Cap change/cancel fees at a percentage of the fare

I like it, but people hate Big government and more regulation.
Capitalism/competition usually do the trick.
The problem here is that we used to have competition, but now with mergers we only the Big 4. So that’s why we need regulation now. It might be a good idea to add how we can’t rely on competition because of the mergers.

@Dan Marriott kinda sorta listened to your first demand on that list. They're still charging them, but they're willing to give you an up-front total, which is probably what would happen if such fees were banned (they'd just bundle them into the price, no?). I assume your bigger gripe is that they charge resort fees on award stays, and that hasn't changed.

Only thought is to change the order. I think you might lose alot of people when they read the first item on your list and quit before they get to the ones that they care about.

Outside of DDF, most people that I know would be excited to see numbers 2,3,5,7,11,12 come to fruition but probably don't care much about resort fees as many (most?) have never paid them.

Putting the ones that are relevant to more people first might get you more signatures.

a bailout screams big gvt. But I guess that's ok if it's helping those who are anti big gvt.

From Bloomberg:

Israel Is Said to Weigh Options for El Al Including Bankruptcy
Wednesday, March 25, 2020 05:32 PM
By Ivan Levingston

(Bloomberg) --Israel is considering options for El Al Airlines Ltd. that include a bankruptcy filing as the coronavirus outbreak wipes out demand for travel, according to people with knowledge of the situation.
Officials are also examining the scope for mergers involving El Al and Israel’s two other main airlines, Israir Airlines and Arkia Israeli Airlines Ltd., according to one person, who asked not to be named as the deliberations are private.

While radical steps are under consideration, discussions center on government-backed loans that would come in return for an efficiency plan including job losses and salary reductions, another person said, adding that the aid could total $500 million. El Al, which was struggling for profitability even before the pandemic, has already announced job workforce cuts and furloughs.

Spokespeople for El Al and the Israeli government declined to comment.

The airline, which has 7.1 billion shekels ($2 billion) in debt, according to data compiled by Bloomberg, is among hundreds worldwide whose future is in doubt as the virus spreads. Carriers could lose $252 billion in revenue this year, according to the International Air Transport Association, which says bailouts of $200 billion may be needed to save the industry.

Bezalel Smotrich, Israel’s transport minister, said Tuesday in local media a loan was the most likely option for El Al. At the same time he said Israel may not need three airlines and raised the possibility of a “dissolution” of El Al and a freeze in proceedings with the state keeping its jets to create a new airline.

The Finance Ministry’s chief economist, Shira Greenberg, told Bloomberg on March 12 that El Al needed to propose a sound business plan before the government would put in money.

El Al has been closely tied to the development of Israel after being founded alongside the country itself in 1948, and was state-owned until being privatized in 2004.

According to the latest annual report the government owns 1.1% of El Al and a “golden share” that protects national interests such as maintaining it as an Israeli company and ensuring a minimum flight capacity, including for emergency or security purposes.

Any talk about airline miles being extended? I have AirFrance Miles that expire this December. Is there any talk about them extending the expiration dates?
