I think there's a pretty long list of changes that would be seen as a positive in any environment, but only this crisis managed to bring about. Here are some that come to mind (in no specific order, but basically boil down to two categories: being careful about what touches your mouth, and not spending/wasting on non-essentials or extravagant lifestyle).

  • True non-gebrochts (chassidish/Chabad style) where no crumb of Matza can come in contact with liquid - check your hands carefully, etc.
  • Hand washing and general hygiene (was that poster from Satmar mikvah real?)
  • One can get married also without spending tens of thousands or more on entertaining guests
  • Importance of having savings to cover 6 months of living expenses
  • Buying insurance to cover black swan events

Please post lifestyle and habit changes you see around you that you hope will stay beyond the COVID-19 crisis.

I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

When it comes to serious medical matters, rabbis need to listen and adhere to the advice of doctors and experts.

People won't put down large deposits for Pesach programs without a proper contract in place.

Everyone should follow their minhag, if that includes eating gebrochts that's fine, if it includes simply not eating gebrochts but not worrying about crumbs etc. that's fine too. I'm not sure why this is "seen as a positive in any environment".
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

I almost never washed my hands. That will change going forward even after this crisis is over.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Not advocating for anyone to change their minhag. But that level of scrupulousness is definitely a Minahg Chabad (not just an unwritten traditional custom, but one brought down several places), yet unfortunately many are not careful, probably mostly out of ignorance.

It's the caution of guarding your hands, keeping them away from your mouth when wet, checking and cleaning all surfaces prior to use, etc.

Minhag Chabad is not halacha. When people eat gebroks they are just as careful about not doing anything improper. To say that theyre doing things out of ignorance is to claim a superior Minhag (Which you seem to translate to halacha) than minhagim that other Jews hold dear.

You misunderstood me.

I think @yitzgar did understand. I am not claiming any superiority. All I am saying is that those that ascribe to Chabad customs (unless they will just admit that they pick and choose) have a certain way for this זהירות and it is not just a tradition, but written from the Rebbe, yet many of them don't practice it that way, probably out of ignorance. Not trying to impose my minhagim on anyone.

You did not address the post to those that ascribe to Minhag Chabad. Now makes perfect sense.

Learned not to trust government officials, local doctors, and Rabbis about anything to do with a novel virus. A simple man with an internet connection can do better.
