A lesson from Italy ?! Rabbanim wake up!!
« on: March 17, 2020, 01:32:26 AM »
https://www.theatlantic.com/video/index/608113/italy-coronavirus/

As though to underscore the importance of quarantine compliance across age groups, a teenager in the video reveals an eye-opening fact: “There are currently kids our age who are intubated and in intensive care.”

Many experts believe that the United States is just 10 days behind the level of severity of the pandemic in Italy. We are at a crucial inflection point, according to the surgeon general, Dr. Jerome Adams, and the time to prepare for what’s coming is now.

“This has been a humbling experience,” Parenti said. “But the cool thing about mistakes is that you can learn from other people’s—so learn from ours and don’t underestimate this.”

By Sunday, 24,747 cases had been diagnosed in Italy, up from 21,157 on Saturday—a record-breaking single-day increase. The country also reported 368 new fatalities, bringing the death toll to 1,809 nationwide

Today is the today!!

I can't grapple with what's going on! .

I forgot who said it, but "the only thing we learn from history, is that no one learns from history"

Every time in my life I saw my keh till 150 bubby who is 90+ I would hug and kiss her.. I saw her today and told her I love her from 6 feet away..

This kanoes, reminds me of Jews who learned in the ghettos till they were killed Al Kiddush hashem, may they be meilitz yosher.

My frustration here is just rawr!! All doctors are asking is 2- 3 weeks social isolation!!

The healthcare system cannot support this!! 2 of my friends who are ER doctors told me that people develop ARDS , the lungs become inflamed and full of liquid, there's cardiovascular collapse.

So what if the average person doesn't get very sick?

Not true for all of NJ. Passaic and Bergen County are in lockdown.

I’ve seen video upon video of people literally lying dead in the street in China. Most very young. Am I missing something? Did they all have an underlying health issue/ compromised immune system? This is very frightening...

STAY HOME, yes.
Stop Torah? NO!!

Where is the committee to brainstorm how to continue Minyanim, Kriyas Hatorah, Limud, Chavrusas, Batei Midrashi, yeshivas, etc during these times??

Virtual learning for those who have devices (yeshivas, chavrusas), dedicated-locked devices for those who don't usually use, phone teleconferences for live shiurim, chavrusas by phone, davening under doorposts of the open front door to one's apartment to create a minyan on a floor of an apartment building, listening to torah being read outside from one's balcony/porch, etc.

Please let us brainstorm here and maybe even develop programs or software (parnosa) for some! We, at DDF, have the brainpower, collective knowledge, and initiative to make a difference for our communities, country, and world!  Let's do it!!

Stay safe, stay home, and CONTINUE TORAH and minyanim.

So im the bad guy ?

My friend who is an ER doctor here in Miami just told me "your thinking is ahead"

Which logic dictates that if medical professionals tell you to stop gatherings to stop the disease, has you decide that we need to gather to pray for the disease to go away?!?

You sounds like Iran if you hold that .

Talk to some people from crown heights.  They will tell you that a week or 10 days ago , all was fine.. and in a few days.. thousands are sick

The Torah says ushmartem

This is like the metzora who feels he needs to daven with a minyan!

You don't understand.. Rabbi Levi Goldstein is 67 and was perfectly healthy.

His whole body shut down and he was on life support. It's only because of a huge miracle from God and.. because of respirators.

In 3-4 days new York will not have enough respirators sadly

The vast majority of our Rabbonim (of all walks of life) have very little understanding of the concept of when the Torah does NOT want you to do certain Mitzvos. They fail to see the forest for the trees.

I saw an entire pilpul about whether a diabetic can carry sugar or check their sugar levels on Shabbos. Recommending various shinuy's etc. Total idiocy. It's not a pilpul. The answer is yes. The Torah says "vchay bahem". End of story.

My brains

And NY times which I had to go look up just to prove my point

The outbreak is projected to peak in 45 days, on May 1, Mr. Cuomo said, at which point the state will need 55,000 to 110,000 hospital beds and 18,600 to 37,000 intensive care beds

The peak will very likely overwhelm New York’s health care system, Mr. Cuomo said: The state currently has about 53,000 hospital beds and 3,000 intensive-care beds. Eighty percent of the intensive-care beds are already occupied, he said.

....

Now, 80% of intensive care beds are taken...

There are possibly 600 beds available. Leaving a shortage of 18,000 to 36,400

*Sigh*

How did we ever send a man to the moon ?

How do I know there will be a shortage in 3-4 days? Because Shi* is really starting to hit the fan now

Just insane to think of the number of people who will have blood on their hands if this thing goes the way it's predicted to. We were warned.
If you don't care why would you comment?

How could you expect people to believe every threat? Every day nutjobs are saying that the whole planet will be under water in two years. Should we believe that too?

I agree, however, that rabbonim should have ordered shuls and schools shut down before Purim when the threat was already apparent.

This wouldn't work for Brooklyn, but for out of town communities what about weekday minyanim in parking lots, where everyone besides maybe the chazan, stays in their cars to daven.

There is no need to add to thew panic by making things up. You have no source to back up your claim that there will be a shortage of ventilators in 3-4 days.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.
