I’d love to have summer school for my kids but their teachers are still working now, providing an online curriculum and instruction. Difficult to imagine faculty (especially if represented by unions in public schools) agreeing to work through the summer.

I can guarantee it won't work anywhere else. So stick a fork in that one.  :)
The more modern Jewish schools that already incorporate a ton of technology in their teaching curriculum might be able to pull it off, but that's about it.

After what’s going to be happening the next few months we're all going to need the summer vacation more than ever.

My high schooler has 60% of her schedule, including regents subjects with the usual regularity.  As long as she takes and passes the regents on the original dates, I vote for no school.  We try to fill our summers with experiential learning and wouldn't want to part with that.

Has your school returned tuition? This online learning is a little joke... question- what’s the downside of just putting all the teachers on unemployment and the school can make up the lost income to the teachers (33-%) next year? Parents would save about 1/9 of all tuition. Thoughts?

We're in uncharted territory here.
It is not THAT long ago that all school years ended with the planting season.

But they started in the beginning of August...

You pay the teachers 2/3 now (via unemployment) and pay them a 1/3 severance or make it up next year.... then you return 1/3 to the parent body (2/3 being eating by the govt and 1/3 need to make the teachers whole).

2/3 of minimum wage = starvation wage
May you slide down the banister of happiness & get many splinters of success up your career.

Soooo when (if) things get back to normal you want to deliberately maintain the abnormality and turn the summer upside down?

You know how messed up all the kids (my own included, or maybe specifically my own) will be because of this? Weeks on end of no structure, no friends, minimal activities, etc.. and then to further keep their lives "off" doesn't paint a pretty picture in my mind.

I'm not sure what you mean. Summer vacation in and of itself is an abnormality. School is normal, structured life.

In my opinion kids need their summer break. However, maybe they can do half a day learning with half a day activities.

Let's assume schools stay closed for 3 months. Should there be school made up this summer?
Camps should all start Isru Chag. Next school year should start early

Good idea. We should send all the kids away to camp now (basically quarantine them away from all the adults) and then have school again when (if?) things ever get back to normal

It’s too late for that, likely too many infected people would be there by now.
