How should schools and parents deal with tuition?

Fair points, both that what they just published is a pashut svara and that I should have said my piece differently. My frustration here is with the approach only- that from day 1 there was no acknowledgement that anything should be different about tuition obligations from when school is running normally.

The thing is, making sure that all the teachers continue to get paid is very important to me personally and clearly also the right thing to be doing. But that doesn't mean that parents can continue to be billed for tuition though. Sadly, this generation does not possess a Nachshon ben Aminadav.

I agree that more communication may be beneficial, but I could see it also creating more issues than it solves.

They have already opted to leave it be and not say anything, hoping they won't rock the boat. Most secular schools and universities have done that as well, and there are lawsuits being filed every hour on the hour. Let's see how this plays out.

I have repeated this countless times in this thread.
I do not view the school as a chinuch store. It is the parent's obligation to ensure that there is a financially viable place for their child's chinuch. If that sometimes means paying while there are no services rendered then so be it. Fundraising to keep the school open is not the administrator's responsibility. He is only hired to administer it. It is the parent's responsibility. That is why parents have an obligation to participate in fundraising events. It is not a for-profit store where the customers have no obligation to the store owner. The school is your shliach.

There are different opinions on this though. The Lubavitcher Rebbe, for example, was of the opinion that while parents should do everything in their power to pay their child's tuition, the onus of fundraising and ensuring that no child is left behind falls ultimately on the administrator.

1) In the "modern" world, schools have much higher accountability standards than in the more "yeshivish" world. Leadership positions are based more on merit than on yichus. The boards aren't afraid to fire a principal, dean, or administrator if they are incompetent or leading the school in the wrong direction.

2) Because of this, there is less friction between the parent body and the "modern" schools.

My kids fees are already being paid for out of an DDC FSA. It will be interesting to see what kind of receipt the school gives me, very difficult to imagine they they will claim to have watched the kid, cuz they didn't.

Receipt would only even be a possibility if "goods or services not provided". If there's a remote system in place, someone would need to calculate how much that's worth (compared to the regular amounts) and you may only be able to get for the remaining value.
