We expect some snow days, and can say that its part of the contract, but we don't expect something like this to happen when we agreed to pay our tuition.

Why should this not be a question for the denei torah (a legitimate one,not mosdos asking their rabbonim as they are נוגע)

Definitely gonna be debating what to do when payment for April is due for playgroup. They don't have any school at all. my kid in kindergarten has a 15 minute teleconference a day.

To play devil's advocate though, why does it differ from snow days if it is a very snowy winter?
If a blizzard lasted 1-3 months we’d be having the same discussion.

Well in that case you would be living in Alaska or the North Pole, and would already be prepared for three-month blizzards.

Sadly, in real life many children and teachers died from one of those storms. It was called the schoolhouse blizzard

My wife is a 3rd grade teacher and is working harder these days with the teleclasses than she does on a regular day. Just saying.
+1
As a teacher, although I'm teaching a lot less on the clock, the prep that has gone in over the past few days has been a lot more than a 30 min presentation.
And on the principal level, this has been the hardest few days of their career!

This has been the hardest few days of almost anyone, so that argument doesn't really hold water.

My wife is also a teacher and was literally crying yesterday. She teaches regents classes and the kids will not be prepared properly now but what made her cry was have our kids all over the place while she was trying to teach.

This is such a mess.
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

To all those who don't want to pay tuition, ask yourself the following question:
An I ready to take the risk that all teachers find new jobs now and are not available to teach your child when this is over?

this makes sense, but I wonder if there is a way to get them UE benefits so it is the gov't footing the bill (finally) and not the parents.

You are right, but what about parents who are out of work due to the situation. How do you expect them to pay tuition?

same goes for many organizations... We had to lay off 75% of our team. None of us qualify for unemployment.

Why don't they qualify?
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

non-profit. It's the first exclusion when applying for unemployment.
Quote from: https://www.mass.gov/service-details/check-eligibility-for-unemployment-benefits#feedback
You may also be required to register with a Career Center to complete mandatory seminars to remain eligible to receive unemployment benefits.

Who is not eligible
You may not be eligible for unemployment benefits if your only source of employment is from working as:

An employee of a non-profit or religious organization
A worker trainee in a program run by a nonprofit or public institution
A real estate broker or insurance agent who work only on commission
A consultant working independently
A student in a work-study program
An elected official
A government official in a policy-making and/or advisory position
A member of the legislative or judiciary body

Agreed.

My point wasnt that only Teachers/School admins are working hard, correct, everyone has it tough.
But its false to think that Teachers/Schools are on vacation now.
I also agree to provide only 1 half hour lesson per day, is a little irresponsible.

My question though is for Kindergarten where they are literally having a 15 minute phone call of just davening and maybe mentioning one thing about pesach every day.

And for a 2 -3 year old playgroup where they arent even having that.

Are any seminaries offering any partial refunds?
Even if they continue to pay all their staff salaries, I’m sure there are a lot of costs that don’t exist anymore. Think utilities, food, trips....
