My 8 year old boy has an hour teleconference. Working but too short.
My 10 year old boy has 1 1/2 -1 3/4 hour teleconference and his rebbe is doing a great job keeping them engaged.

My girls had very little before pesach and I still have not heard from their schools what the plan is going forward.

Now that this is going to be for a while they really need to figure out how they plan on dealing with this to provide more hours-education.

So this kphone is a nice idea, but $150 'retail' is steep, and many people already have as many devices as the need, but not the ability to lock them down to the extent that only zoom is accessible. Does anyone know of a way to do that, either for free or with paid apps/software?

For using a regular laptop, what's the best way to 'pin' zoom to the foreground (like on Android) so that a young child can't easily /accidentally switch to another app?

Also, can someone suggest good cheap basic (over ear) headphones for young kids?

I was shocked that my kids school is switching to video, but it seems that parents demanded it so that forced their hand. They still will have a call-in option.

Bottom line is, you have to create the pressure as it won't happen otherwise.

Over the coming weeks we all hope to become adept at the art of home-schooling. There will be challenges and limitations and every effort is being made to be sensitive to all dynamics -- working parents, technical snafus, siblings, and the recognition that no two children learn alike. On that note, the parents are the “boots on the ground” and are best equipped to say “it's time to take a break.” We all know at the end of the day, our children’s emotional health is no less important than their academic skills.

Do not be overly concerned about your children regressing in school. Every talmid is in the same boat and they will be okay. Our Rebbeim and Teachers’ Distance Learning plans are creative and robust. The final segment of the classes will be dedicated to support, review, and reinforce the day’s learning. We are committed to the ideal that learning happens during the classroom hours.

When we are back in the classroom, we will course correct and meet our children where they are. We all have our children’s best interests in mind and the investment we make now in our children’s learning will ease the transition when IY”H we will all be back in our classroom.

Finally, let’s focus on what the boys are accomplishing: The Torah learning of tinokos shel bais rabban and all the zchusim that it generates.

My mesivta boys are BH putting in basically a full day. My ninth grader's bkius/halacha rebbe gave voluntary shiur every day of bein hazmanim including chol hamoed on more yom tovdik and lighter inyanim. My son loved it BH!
