On the same tone.
A lady I know with covid-19, pneumonia and fever for over a week had her first day today, without fever. She started taking the trump hydroxychloroquine cocktail on thursday.
...and maybe if she didn't take it the fever would have been gone on Friday?
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Thanks :)
Just had a chance to read the roundup. Great job! Very clear and well organized. I guess this replaces the Sunday Airline news roundup.

Do we have a bad news thread?

The plasma thing we were talking here about that mt Sinai was doing. For now it seems like it's not really worth anything  :'(

Its really just the beginning of the study so let's hope it ends up working out but I know from someone inside that it was given to someone and his symptoms only got worse.
Anecdotal evidence? Read up on it...

Total Cases:
4,347 (+25% in 48 hours used to be doubling every 3 days)

15 Niftar=.35% (No change in fatality rate)

176 Moderate to Severe (4.1% a .6% rise from 2 days ago)

BH it looks like quarantine is working for most of the population.

Total Cases is now 8,611 which means we just about doubled in 7 days

Moderate to Severe cases is 332 or 3.8% of all cases (a decrease of .3%)

Niftar at 51 R"L .6% fatality rate (up from .35%)

For all the absolute hate that Litzman is taking, I think these numbers are fantastic relative to other developed countries. If you took Jerusalem/Bnei Beraq out of the picture the numbers would be a lot lot lower.

I'd like to see an investigation into the autonomy of the USSG and the CDC. I wonder how much they can say on their own and how much they serve at the pleasure.

That is dependent on each position within. Don't forget that this was WHO guidance as well.

WHO isn't a US government position or organization. We can get how much we want to rely on their info, but they don't set US policy. The CDC and USSG do.

True, but it is not a shock when CDC and the rest of the world (as you have pointed out elsewhere) follow their guidance.

Separate issue. Where the US agencies get their info from will be fully vetted when this is over, if not during this crisis itself. My question is, after they get their info from wherever they get it from, how much autonomy do they have to give guidance and how much does the Oval Office get to filter what that guidance is?

All of this will be coming out over time. There will be no shortage of people looking to gain political advantage out of this when the dust clears (and earlier).

Some slightly good news- Italy now officially appears to be on the downswing in terms of new cases and continues to look like it will follow the mathematical progression seen in China's numbers, which would mean that within a couple of weeks or less the number of new cases will shrink to almost none. By end of day today Spain will take Italy's spot as #2 in the world. The USA is only approximately 11 days behind Italy.

Of course, the US is a big place so that just applies to the NY epicenter. Other regions might be spared altogether or might just break out later.

Washington State is giving back ventilators. If you can still recall (feels like years ago) Washington was the first place to get hit with this, and NY was a week behind. This is emerging almost exactly as mathematical models have predicted.

Does everyone who gets vaccinated get tested to see if they’re infected? Other than ruling out side effects, how do they know it works?

If people who are vaccinated have a lower rate of infection that the general population. Similar to the flu vaccine that they say is 60% effective. I assume that number comes from the fact that people who have been vaccinated are 60% less likely to catch the flu.

With the flu vaccine, they’re guessing each year about which strain will be prevalent.  With this vaccine there’s only 1 strain (I think).  So it should be a lot more effective than 60%.

Slow down. There’s a vaccine trial for a proposed COVID-19 vaccine that’s being tested. 1000 people get the vaccine as part of the trial. If out of those 1000 people 17 test positive for COVID-19, what exactly does that tell us about the immunity of the other 983, maybe they just happened to have not gotten infected?

Unless they’re testing the vaccine on front line medical professionals who are going to risk it and treat patients without PPE because they’re presumed to be immunized.
