Good news?

Although the death toll is unfortunately climbing in the US right now, the mortality rate is actually dropping (for now) as more testing becomes available. Currently at 1.4%
Hopefully that percentage keeps dropping.

Don’t want to get your hopes down but - many new people infected. And people don’t die instantly.
Hence the death rate is low but so is the recovered case rate. Need the recovered rate to rise before saying anything is good news.

South Korea (going to a country that will be most similar to the USA) has a 25% recovery rate and a 1-1.2% death rate.

SK is most similar to the US. We are testing hundreds of thousands? We took this serious from day one? Our curve is flattening?
Please explain how we are similar, not how we hope we are?

On March 12 Italy had 15,113 cases and 1,016 deaths. The US currently has 14,372 cases and 217 deaths

What was the total % of completed cases and recoveries on that date in Italy? I see right now it’s at 10.8% recovered vs 8.3% CFR. US right now is at 0.8% recovered vs 1.4% CFR. I don’t necessarily think the US will be hit hard like Italy (I really hope not), but it’s hard to match it up to South Korea either.  There’s a large gap between those 2.

What was your point besides always trying to downplay the crisis?

I don't know, but presumably if we're going at the same rate of cases the recovery should be around the same.

Are we not allowed to discuss the facts unless they say we're all going to die? I've been tracking the death rate in the US and Italy, and we're definitely trending much lower. Earlier this week it was 2.5-3x, now it's 4-5x
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Sure you can discuss the facts all you want. Playing with numbers to make the facts the way you want them to look is a different story.

What don't you show the facts that we are on the same (or worse) trajectory as Italy for new cases? Or how about the numbers showing hospitals running out of supplies? Or how we have less beds than Italy per capita?

My point is from the beginning you have taken the position we are all panicking or it is not that bad. You have been wrong at every turn but still keep it up.

Look at the two curves for cases and deaths. What do you see @avromie7

I'm not trying to play with the numbers, I'm looking at what everyone is convinced is coming here and wondering if it's true. The number of cases is not what's worrisome about this virus, it's the number of deaths.

I didn't leave my house at all yesterday except to take out the garbage. My wife and kids took a walk to the mailbox.

They're both important, but considering that I live in the US that's what worries me the most.

Then look at the curve for NUMBER of deaths. If we don't take drastic measures that is only going to get worse.

Look at the logarithmic chart, it took Italy 8 days to go from 10 to 100, and 8 days from 100 to 1000. It took the US 13 days to go from 10 to 100, and we're on day 3 of the trajectory from 100 to 1000. I am not trying to downplay the seriousness, I'm just trying to get to find the facts. There are enough people showing the worst case scenario that I don't need to.

Look at the trajectory of the US curve. Forget about everyone else. This is not rocket science to see where we are headed.
