Right because all those people would have died anyway in the week since they contracted the virus.
Someone can have COVID-19 and simultaneously die from an unrelated issue. Many people have COVID-19 with no/minor symptoms, but if something else comes up and they go to the hospital, they're going to test positive.
Best/simplest way to check that (I guess) would be to compare average number of deaths with # of deaths during this time...although that still might not give an accurate picture, because with health system being overwhelmed, more people are likely to die from other causes anyway.
