Does everyone who gets vaccinated get tested to see if they’re infected? Other than ruling out side effects, how do they know it works?
If people who are vaccinated have a lower rate of infection that the general population. Similar to the flu vaccine that they say is 60% effective. I assume that number comes from the fact that people who have been vaccinated are 60% less likely to catch the flu.

With the flu vaccine, they’re guessing each year about which strain will be prevalent.  With this vaccine there’s only 1 strain (I think).  So it should be a lot more effective than 60%.

For now.

Slow down. There’s a vaccine trial for a proposed COVID-19 vaccine that’s being tested. 1000 people get the vaccine as part of the trial. If out of those 1000 people 17 test positive for COVID-19, what exactly does that tell us about the immunity of the other 983, maybe they just happened to have not gotten infected?

Unless they’re testing the vaccine on front line medical professionals who are going to risk it and treat patients without PPE because they’re presumed to be immunized.

There were talks about exposing the people in the vaccine trial to the virus to test its effectiveness

Would you knowingly expose yourself to a dangerous virus to test a vaccine?

12 positive results came back today. When do you think they were tested?
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

I am not saying that I would. But the people who are in clinical trials are also putting themselves at a risk by accepting the vaccine to begin with. They have no idea what the adverse effects of that vaccine can be.

prior vaccine candidates with SARS 1 caused a hyper immune response when actually infected- worsening the outcome and not protecting.
With SARS 1 gone, vaccine research stopped. But it is very possible that the first vaccines developed for covid will do the same.

exactly.
which basically means about a week ago they were infected. No telling how many were infected since then.
it also means about 300-600 actual infections as most people infected don't get tested, mainly just those that are hospitalized are and most don't get hospitalized

Where's the post about the Nobel prize winner saying he would be surprised if they're over 10 deaths in Israel.

It's at 100+
