If we banned cars we would also be saving lives....is that worth it?
Are you seriously making this argument or just pointing out that to save *one* life alone it wouldn’t have been worth it?

Israel had social distancing from the day after purim. These predictions were made after.

That’s like saying there’s no chillul Shabbos in Jerusalem because the buses aren’t running. If people aren’t actually social distancing, and the number of confirmed cases keep climbing, there’s no reason to believe “min hateva” that the death rate and death count won’t keep going up. A few weeks ago the same people were claiming S. Korea and Germany have the best data, and only 0.5% death rate. Well now both are at 2% and up. They also pointed at the US 1.4% death rate, and that’s it probably very exaggerated. Well despite massive increases in testing, it now almost 3x that number.

If we want this thread to have any good news, we have to stop with the ridiculous rosy predictions and stop telling everyone to continue life as usual.

Is is just me or did other folks also see families coming from out to town to in-laws parents for Yom Tov when everyone said not to. I’m working on myself to be don lachav zechos, but it’s hard.

You don’t know everybody’s situation, there definitely are many different situations and risk factors and I hope everything was discussed with a Rav/doctor but A) There definitely are/were some people breaking the rules without adequate reason and B) Judging just by the amount of young people I saw home on my walks over Yom Tov, there definitely was a large majority of people who stayed home and followed orders.

Don’t be jealous of those rule-breakers, be glad you were smart and listened. I am not pointing fingers but I know someone who wasn’t taking this seriously and visited an older gentleman after Purim, someone who gets very few visitors (no family), while both were feeling fine. This person started showing symptoms of corona afterwards, and the older gentleman has since passed away r”l.. we don’t know who’s actions cause what but I for one am glad to have done my part to help keep my parents safe this Yom Tov BH.

On my block in Lakewood, out of 18 families every single family stayed home. Nearly every single one would have went to family. Most are young and married less than 10 years, and most were still planning on going a week before Pesach.

Perhaps there was a small percentage of non-compliance, but BH it looked very good overall from my viewpoint, and far beyond expectations.

I know a family who went to parents for various reasons after discussing with doctors how to properly do a full quarantine without stepping for out of their house for over 2 weeks.

I have a friend who (he and his wife/child) didn’t open the door to his apartment once except twice to get the delivered groceries at his door, after wiping down everything with disinfectant, for 3 full weeks. His father-in-law’s family did the same. Then, after approval from their doctor, he went for Yom Tov, for good reason.

Some people, even if they seem reckless, are actually being really careful.

I have not had a cigarette in 8 days
I don't know how long it's been, maybe a month? Will not last after quarantine but nice to know I could.
If you don't care why would you comment?

Not to sound pedantic or judgemental, but smoking actually kills about 480,000 people in the US each year, including 41,000 from secondhand smoke.. That’s far worse than most estimates for coronavirus, and that’s every year.

Did my post sound like "if you could smoke..."? I meant "if you could quit..."!

The average daily jump was about 45-80. Now, however, the numbers have been down in Lakewood for 4 days. Over Yom Tov, the numbers jumped 104 (in three days), indicating an average of about 35 daily. Over the last 24 hours, it's only been a jump of 25.

I'm glad to hear. The same where I live. BH in Lakewood there appears to be very high compliance, and I think that some on this forum deserve the credit for that and Rabbanim have made very strong public statements here that were widely publicized.

What do “new cases” mean? Could it just mean fewer tests because of YomTov?

Hopefully it’s sustainable and we’re past the worst. Refuah Shleima to all those who need one.
