Anyone who's still taking medical advice from politicians probably has a hard time figuring the truth about anything.

How anyone can take advice from politicians after the right wing talk show spin early on about it being harmless, Trump saying something else every day, and the left wing politicians pandering to the BLM overcrowded protests and politicizing the reopening categories,  is just beyond me.

So who do you listen to? You have doctors on every dot of the spectrum.

And where do you find out what the doctors said? Do you call your GP every day for an update? Or do you get the media's take on the opinions of the doctors they like?
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

We've moved from not trusting politicians with medical guidance to talking heads' opinion pieces of those politicians and their blunders to not being able to trust doctors? Where do you get your information from?

I didn't mean to say the media and politicians are the ideal sources of information, I'm just pointing out that there aren't really any practical alternatives.

The media is a great source of information, as long as you just look at the data and see where they sourced it from. Many medical institutions put out their own data and press releases, as well. Politicians are probably the least reliable source of information. Conflating politicians and the media is probably one of the biggest mistakes people make. Admittedly, it can be hard to separate the 2 without a bit of effort, considering the only place people see politicians is in the media, but it can and should be done.

Essentially it all boils down to what the media publishes. You won't know about a study that goes against their narrative and you'll never have the opportunity to check the data because you don't know it exists

That's not true. You can go straight to the sources. Large medical networks publish data all the time, such as Mayo, Johns Hopkins, and Cleveland Clinic, and there are a plethora of medical journals, many of which have been quoted here. There's also the false premise that all media has the same narrative. There's more than one agenda, and by checking multiple news sources, you can find almost anything published. If you only check Fox News or CNN, you're right - you can't trust a good chunk of what you read.

Yes I call a doctor (PCP or specialist depending on the issue) to discuss any serious medical questions I have. Don’t you?

I found reddit to be pretty useful, lots of links to studies. It’s more censored and left-leaning than it was in the beginning, but plenty of links to come to your own conclusions. Also I mostly follow the dashboards these days, it’s pretty easy to see who’s doing well and who’s not.

There are no alternatives to listening to the politicians?  ::)

Of course not, they give me guidelines and information and I use it as I interpret it. When I have questions or have reason to believe circumstances may have changed I’ll call again.

To date, none of them have told me I should be wary of masks doing me more harm than good.
