Holy c*$p those flights are expensive!
$1550 for a one way flight when they have staff they are paying anyway and plane leases they are paying anyway. הכי בבית בעולם my Tuches. That's like your mother charging you for dinner 10 times what it cost her to make it because all the restaurants are closed.

There are variable costs such as fuel etc which you need to take into account. Then you have to fly empty for 15+ hours to go pick up the group.
Plus they are not 'paying the staff anyway'. They have the option to put them on unpaid leave per Israeli law, so there is an opportunity cost here.

I'm not sure why you think anyone deserves the service for free because they need to pay the fixed costs anyway.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Did I say anything about free? Let them charge a normal price with a nice profit instead of abusing peoples misfortune.

I doubt they are putting everyone on unpaid leave. The law-level employees for sure but the Pilots? Management?  Basically, the people costing the airline the most money will still be paid. Besides, fuel prices have plummeted so their variable cost is less then usual, not more.

Even if they are flying one way empty, it doesn't make sense to charge 250% the usual fare ($1550 for one way from India as opposed to $600-750 round trip it usually costs) so yes, they are exploiting the situation and they care about Israelis almost less then they care about Charedim.

The most annoying thing about it is that they are making themselves out to be some patriotic heroes rescuing Israelis from all over the world and they are using these claims to squeeze money from the taxpayers so that they can continue to run a mediocre airline with terrible costumer service and pay exorbitant salaries to pilots on our dime.

Pretty much, you want them to eat the fixed costs so they can bring down the price of the flight.

Not sure how you got that from what I wrote.
My point was that they aren't spending anything extra to operate those flights such as hiring new staff, leasing more planes, paying for new distribution channels, etc'. Rather, they are mostly using resources they already have.

Therefore, the price for those flights should be similar or even lower then what they usually charge unless they are trying to squeeze the last dime out of people who have no other options. Since that is the case, I really don't see why we are using taxpayers' money to bail out such a company instead of using it for the public health system.

Elal pilots are on unpaid leave already. Wake up and smell the coffee.

30 hours rt flying, assuming $6k/h fuel is already 180k, add to that staff (double crews), landing fees, catering, etc

Remember they likely cannot fill the plane, and there are no business class passengers to help subsidize the economy passengers.

I am skeptical if Elal is making money on this at all.

Hua? It takes 15 hours to get to India?
Oh and BTW, the Israeli government subsidized those flights and they still charged $1500 for a one way ticket.

This Elal flight TLV-MEL was already planned months ago apperently. It might have been cancelled and rescheduled but it fell on the same day. coincidence?
