This is a very common misconception, and is probably part of the confusion and misinformation surrounding the virus.

If you share close quarters with someone positive, you have a 10% chance of catching it. On the flip side, even without sharing close contact with someone, there’s a significant chance of catching it through short casual contact. Of course not close to 10%, but the more interactions you have with people, the higher the odds go. I don’t have the source right now but will try to edit it in later.

So everyone who shares quarters with someone positive: there is a very decent chance you have it, and therefore you need to be extra careful. However, do NOT assume “I for sure have it”, because believe it or not, odds are you don’t.

Certainly, the more interactions you have with the infected person the higher the chances. If they sneeze into your mouth, you probably will get it. But you can still not have it, and get it from someone else, so still be careful!

Not sure where you're getting your numbers from, but they certainly aren't representative for a husband and wife living together in fairly cramped space over a relatively long period of time with 4 young children - including a nursing baby who gets passed between parents all the time.

Though you should probably increase s once more than 1 household member gets infected, and that's inconsistent with the binomial model.

There is a difference, but the argument can be made that discrimination is discrimination.

That said, how is that relevant? The letter I read essentially said, "This isn't over. There is no cure yet. You may be able to be reinfected. Keep everyone out of your house. Social distance. Dont let your kids play with other kids. Don't rehire your cleaning help. And if you're the type who thinks 'we all had it, we're fine,' the other communities in our township are currently experiencing high infection rates, so don't play around."

To take some of the burden of running a large household off of my wife and myself. Another reason many do is to enable them to work longer hours.
