If you have symptoms and are isolated, what are the pros and cons of getting tested?

Benefits of testing are preventing the spread by forcing everyone who was in contact with the carrier to be isolated as well.

In the case of severe symptoms earlier treatment drastically improves survival rates.

Con could be waiting on a really long line and potentially getting turned away :)
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Cons:
At the last minute they tell you the swabbing will go deep up into your nose and is very painful, so sit on your hands and stay still. If they told people that right away the lines might be shorter ;D

No one is forcing anyone to do anything. The positive tested are out and about. Those in contact are too. If you have symptoms use your head. No need to know if it is or isnt at this point. If you live in any of the frum areas of Brooklyn assume you were exposed and what you are feeling, if it fits into the signs and symptoms, it is the virus.

Anything short of shortness of breath is not a severe symptom. Maybe extended unregulated fever for several days over 101. Doubtful that hospital will admit for anything less.
Fair warning - Any PMs sent in response to forum posts are fair game for ridicule in public.

OOT, they give me an appointment.

my main reasons to go is
A) wake up ppl around me to take this serious
B) if it is the virus likely once i'm cleared i can go out and help those who can't go out, vs if i'm not 100% sure i was positive and subsequently negative i may be a carrier (and yes I know no anti body test is available yet)

problem is, stress from managing failing business, managing a relief effort, cleaning for pesach, staying up into the wee hours managing whats left of the organization,  extreme weather (74 shabbos, snowing yesterday) all recipes for these symptoms as well without having covid19

What does early treatment for severe symptomes have to do with knowing if you are positive or not?

Got tested for this reason. Hopefully we will indeed be immuned. While they believe that one will be immuned no one is sure

Dr. Berx implied at today's presser, that once having it once a person is indeed immune, as there is a very small chance of a mutation affecting one again.
