Life insurances waiving medical exam requirements
« on: March 27, 2020, 10:36:03 AM »
My life insurance guy just informed me of this.
It would be a great time to get on that.

As has been pointed out in another thread. There have been carriers that have been doing this for a while, and others that have just loosened up underwriting temporarily.

It is in no way a guarantee to get a policy, but it can help for whoever doesn't like needles etc. They're still going their regular background checks.

What a shame. DDF's Life Insurance guy @ExGingi told us about this a few days ago.

What exactly do they see in “the regular background checks”?

They see any prescriptions you got filled (unless insurance was never used for the prescription). They will check your history of applying for life insurance (and rating or decline if there was such). They will check your driving record. And might use any other background checks available.

An enhancement that some carriers are trying to use now is having you authorize their access to your Doctor's patient portal to get information from there.

Whether or not the requirements are easier/better now is not the main point. If you aren't properly insured then I certainly hope this pandemic is enough of a kick in the rear to motivate you to get coverage. Fortunately it seems that it's still easy (or maybe slightly easier) to get life insurance today despite the pandemic. Like every type of insurance, you need to buy it before you need it.

When I got life insurance a number of years ago they came back to me with questions why I had been at 3 doctors in the past few months. (I had either recurring strep or bronchitis I don't remember). They also knew which medicines I had prescribed.

They will see insurance paid for a prescription or will they see the medication I am taking?
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

They will see what medication you are taking, which Dr prescribed, and date.

yes, assuming you fit into the parameters. Otherwise, they'll just postpone until it's easier to take an exam.

No less important is Individual Disability Insurance. And while those policies usually come with a 90 day elimination period, that elimination period might be waived in cases of presumptive disability.

Do you give them permission? What about HIPPA?
