Politically he can only lose by sending them out while we have a shortage.

Correct, but thatís all it is, political, not necessarily smart.

But he is a politician and politics is what matters most to him for better or worse.

can you please explain how it's smart to send what is in short supply? I'm trying to understand your logic but I don't get it.

Sort of surprised to the answers so far. No one feels that even when things are in short supply you should not show compassion?

We're the Titanic and we're going down without enough life boats. Do we send some life boats to the other ship that also might need them? We did this already once by selling masks for $2/pc in Feb, and there's not one person saying that was the right move in retrospect. If we send out life-saving equipment today, and it costs US lives tomorrow, it will be inexcusable.
When you find yourself agreeing with me more often than not, it's time for a cheshbon hanefesh.

Would you give your life vest to a child you did not know or was from a different country?

Should states not send ventilators to NYC because they might need them later on?

I am not saying you are wrong just not the answers I expected especially on this forum.

Is it compassionate to take PPE away from Americans to send to Canadians? Why do they have more of a right to it than Drs and nurses in the US?

If it's only "might need them" then it would be wrong to hold it back from someone who actually does need. With PPE, everyone needs, so it does make sense to are for "our own" before helping others

Let's start with the child example. We're not talking about children. We're talking adults to adults. Just because they're Canadian doesn't mean they're somehow less self-sufficient.

Regarding the answers you're seeing, the thread is about administration blunders. From a political perspective, the administration answers to the people of the US and is responsible for their well-being. They would be derelict in their duty if they sent vital equipment out of the country to the detriment of US lives.

Regarding states sending equipment to NYC, it depends on the details. Who owns the equipment?  Is it the state? Is it private healthcare providers? Is it federally owned but on loan or stored in certain states? You also have certain states that are virtually guaranteed to not get hit nearly as hard as NY, both by virtue of population density and by the benefit of learning from NY's mistakes and taking extra precautions earlier.

I never said this was a blunder by the administration. You learn by asking questions. Unfortunately I am saddened by what I just learned. Lets move on.

You have one dose of medicine. You can save your parent or you can give it to a stranger in need. Either will die without it.
Who gets it?
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

As a head of household, responsible for the wellbeing of your family, would you send out life saving equipment your family might need? What if you were virtually guaranteed to need it in the very near future?

Your parent.
You have food that will last you for a month. Your neighbors are starving. Do you share some of it with them?
