IZ = Israel Zion = Maimonides Hospital

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maimonides_Medical_Center:
Quote
In 1920 Israel Hospital merged with Zion Hospital to form United Israel Zion Hospital, later renamed Israel Zion Hospital. Maimonides Medical Center was formed as a result of the merger of United Israel Zion Hospital and Beth Moses Hospital in 1947.
Hatzolah uses IZ as code for the hospital. So should we. Unless you are really good at spelling.

You can make a comparison to how other private hospitals in the area are doing, and see if Maimo is exceptional in this instance.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/03/31/new-york-city-hospitals-coronavirus/

"A physician at New York-Presbyterian’s Brooklyn Methodist said doctors have been told not to perform CPR except in rare cases where the patient is young, otherwise healthy and is judged to have a good chance of recovery. For some patients, he said, “we are pretty much doing nothing.”

"At NYU Langone Health on Saturday, the head of emergency medicine emailed other doctors urging them to “think more critically” about who gets ventilators"

"St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey, has changed its policy. “As of now, all COVID-19 patients are to be designated as DNR B. This means no CPR,”

Not the point, we cant ignore patients.

So why is this thread entitled Maimonides, and peddling hearsay about them giving substandard care to jews?

It should be Hospitals - Overwhelmed by Force majeure. Stay the F Home.

Wouldn’t this just mean patients will be brought in sooner to mitigate it ch”v coming to this?
Everyone knows that staying home todoay is the best possible outcome. Some will stay too long.

This isnt a fact, this is my opinion... it seems that in maimonidies there was clear neglect or whatever you want to call it & in other hospitals the neglect wasnt seen.

If you heard the Voicenote that went around from Hatzolah you will understand what went wrong at Maimonides and what they had to do to get it fixed. They also pretty much agreed to be the last man standing in regards to heroic measures. Committed to every patient getting a vent, regardless of age. Not disconnecting after 'X' days. checking on patients every hour. Relaxed PPE. They were closing doors to rooms and not checking on patients period!!! The Voicenote is from a reliable person with firsthand info for those who will challenge that.
And it was substandard care for all...especially its majority Jewish population.

Are they saying that only as long as hatzolah keeps providing ventilators they won’t unplug patients ?

Not clear. But they are working on it. And they committed not to follow other hospitals that have way worse policies.

There will likely come a point where maimo will have a supply/demand issue between the amount of patients they have that need ventilators and the amount of vents they have. I dont understand how the can commit to every patient having a vent, if they simply dont have a vent to give a patient.

Many of their patients are jewish, and will therefore be affected by care rationing. How exactly does the jewish community they serve view the bioethics behind rationing of care?

You need pretty broad rabbinical shoulders to answer that

Sorry to take this off topic. But I was just learning the Gemara שבת יב where it says Hashem is in the room with a sick person. It got me thinking (after reading this thread) : Wow! Hashem threw us out of Shuls, Yeshivas and now hospital rooms (All places where he dwells). He really doesn’t want us near him now. Presumably because we don’t have the merit to be near him. It’s really scary

In light of the fact that jews dont own their own hospitals, and maimo cares for patients of all faiths, why is it appropriate/fair for them to follow rabbinical direction if it does in fact come to care rationing?

They said for as long as they have equipment they wont deny a ventilator. Obviously if you dont have there is nothing to do.
