IZ = Israel Zion = Maimonides Hospital

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maimonides_Medical_Center:
Quote
In 1920 Israel Hospital merged with Zion Hospital to form United Israel Zion Hospital, later renamed Israel Zion Hospital. Maimonides Medical Center was formed as a result of the merger of United Israel Zion Hospital and Beth Moses Hospital in 1947.
Hatzolah uses IZ as code for the hospital. So should we. Unless you are really good at spelling.

I hope you’re wrong. I’ve seen models of NYC deaths R”L peaking around April 9th
I daven that you are correct. With the lack of social distancing in the non-jewish population the subways still open that seems to be a pipedream.

How exactly does the Jewish community they serve view the bioethics behind rationing of care?
This was the question that elicited the response that the broad shoulders of a Rabbi are needed to answer. No one implied forcing hospitals or doctors to listen to their psak. But if you want to know the Jewish view, yes, Rabbis will answer, because it is a very difficult ethical question. Funny, Dr. Koop had no problem consulting with Reb Moshe.

Italy with stricter isolation took them more than 3 weeks to reach the peak in new cases (3 days with the same amount of new cases). Peak for deaths will be in another 2-3 weeks. We are far from our peak and looking at NYC's numbers it's not pretty.

In my opinion, this is a great idea, but with one minor alteration. The masses should come to the hospital with huge appreciation posters instead, thanking the medical staff for their hard work. Yes, it may be blatant falsehood. But it might actually accomplish something.

Like if you agree.

Why not have live web-cams in each room, so that
A. Paitiants can think they're being watched by lived ones, which will boost their moral.
B. Family can check in with the paitiants, and boost their own moral and hopes.
C. Nurses will know their is accountability, they are or might be being watched.
D. Hospital directorship can ensure their staff are working properly.

Thoughts?

Israel is big into that. Army special units are wiring up hospital beds.

In my hospital, staff has actually pushed for something like this too...there is major HIPAA issues that get in the way though. The hospitals would have to ensure that all these simultaneous streams that leave the walls of the hospital maintain secure.

Will never happen.
It would open the hospital and doctors to malpractice lawsuits.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

It should help cut down on frivolous malpractice lawsuits.

Exceptional times call for exceptional measures, but like I said earlier, hospitals are all about protocol and there aren’t sufficient resources to fully flesh out and develop these protocols right now, when saving lives is enough of a responsibility.

How do you define what the level of responsibility is? Is a doctor required to work 18 hours a day for a month ?

It's very easy to say "it's their job"

Why don't people go in and volunteer?!?

I'm not sure they allow that but if they are understaffed, who knows.

They need qualified medical professionals. People who know their protocols (even in these challenging times). People who know their systems and modes of communication. Taking people off the street sounds unlikely, even negligent.

Dear NJ Unemployment Claimant:

Gov. Phil Murphy has launched an online jobs portal to connect New Jersey residents with immediate openings in industries critical to our COVID-19 response.

The jobs portal is available here: jobs.covid19.nj.gov

Thousands of jobs are currently listed. Check the site often. New information and new positions are being added daily.

The portal provides opportunities for residents who have been laid off or seen their hours reduced because of COVID-19 to get back to work quickly _ while also providing critical support to the industries on the front lines of fighting this pandemic. These key industries need thousands of workers to perform the essential duties being required of them during this public health emergency.

Job openings currently available through the portal are primarily in industries that are central to the state's COVID-19 response, but going forward it will expand to include any businesses that wish to tap into New Jersey's job talent network.

For additional COVID-19 resources for workers and businesses, visit: nj.gov/labor.

This new jobs portal will match employees who need to keep income coming in with businesses that need workers immediately to fulfill critical needs during the pandemic.

Together, we will emerge stronger on the other side.

Thank you.
