Don't understand what the foreign supply chain has to do with anything

The virus came from China, obviously its their fault, and our fault for consuming their goods...

The reliance on a foreign supply chain gave us a hit when China was locked down, and a further hit once we needed to make our own medical supplies. The major shortages of medical equipment would have been mitigated if we had more manufactured in the US.

So you think we will be willing to pay more for goods? How long you think that will last?

We will defeat it. It should give us new perspective.

Look at what it has already given us on a communal level.

This is from a list a friend posted on FB.
No need for lavish over the top weddings and simchos.
Endless and unnecessary shopping.
Rethink the need for Pesach Programs.
Rethink the need for over the top fine dining.
Seminary/Yeshiva in Israel.

I for one am looking forward to being able to marry off my kids at a way lower standard than I could have ever dreamed of.

I think it will change the way this country does business with and relies on foreign supply chains. It will awake the country to the dangers of diseases that we were never open to accepting. Almost everyone that I spoke to 3 weeks ago laughed it off. That has changed drastically and will live on in peoples psyche for a long time.
I don't see any of those things being long-term changes.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

The fact that we are so reliant on a single country caused major issues.

So you think we will be willing to pay more for goods? How long you think that will last?

There are other countries that manufacturer for similar prices. Company's may want to "diversify" their plants.

Lastly there will prib5 be a bill introduced in Congress requiring Pharmaceuticals etc to have a certain percentage manufactured in the USA. ( Not sure if it will pass though...)

That was my point as well

On the contrary right now there is plenty of new equipment coming in from China, while the US is being slow to ramp up production. AFAIK most of the items needed are regularly manufactured in the USA as well- ventilators, masks (3M), etc.
The fact that we are so reliant on a single country caused major issues.
Such as?
Lastly there will prib5 be a bill introduced in Congress requiring Pharmaceuticals etc to have a certain percentage manufactured in the USA. ( Not sure if it will pass though...)
You'd be hard pressed to find China manufactured pharmaceuticals outside China already.

Believe they have local USA R&D requirements/incentives already

1. The shutdown of the factories in a single country creating major supply shortages.

2. It's not going to happen overnight. But there  will be new incentives to open facilities in other countries.

You dont need to see it. You just need to hope that people are given to some introspection and acceptance of change in their lives. Wouldnt it be nice to relieve the massive financial and social pressure that weddings and other simchos place on our society? Seeing that it could be done on a lesser scale should give us great pause in ramping back up to business as usual. Eating out too. Its nice to have variety of foods and "foodie culture" but is it really necessary? Introspection...again. Not everyone will get that.

I remember 9/10 if you think its only TSA and being more aware then I think you dont.

These issues are about fiscal responsibility. The temptation to spend money will always be high.

True. But will it change now that the societal pressure has been relieved a bit?

Doubtful. Unless the economy takes a permanent turn for the worse and there is new widespread poverty RL.
