Major nebach that the parents now have 30-40k to help their kids start their home? I wish my parents had done that rather than spend it all on a fleeting 5 hours....

Are you sure the newlyweds are themselves feeling nebach? They’re happy to be together, and you can be happy for them too.

The wedding itself is a massive expense, including all auxiliary expenses. Sure, there are other things that cost like support and furniture, but the hall and package(FLOP), gowns, clothing, makeup, etc. are a huge expense that is largely unnecessary. If we could just make them in bar mitzvah halls with fewer guests and less frills there are many thousands of dollars in savings to be had in a Lakewood takanah wedding alone. Keep in mind outside of Lakewood even a takanah wedding is significantly more, and a for a non takanah wedding they’d save tens of thousands.

Let alone the Vort, Aufruf, and Shabbos Sheva Brachos which each alone is larger than a wedding back in the shtetl.
I know the expenses very well. I've been through it. Yes there is fat to cut from the wedding, but that is not the largest expense. Setting up the home is much much more.
Feelings don't care about your facts

As mentioned, I don't think there will ever be normal again.

Like one poster said , pre and post 9/11

There will certainly be a push for cleaner air / less congestion / less noise. It's really nice looking at the air quality index, going outside to quiet streets, seeing people bike riding with families..

I see rollerblades made a big come back

More remote working. I think tolerance for schlepping to work will be less.. as will brick and mortar shopping

Hand hygiene will be a hopefully lasting effect.

I don't know how this bodes for professional sports, will people ever resume going to games?

What about movie theaters?

I wonder how dinning and coffee shops will make a return.

Vietnam was a major turning point in the people's distrust for government.

I think coronavirus might be another spur, it might cause a long war with China..akin to the cold war.

Although there will be some lasting changes things will return to normal. Just like after 9/11 eventually things returned to normal albeit with lasting changes in certain areas especially air travel.
People will return to restaurants coffee shops and sporting events. They will return to air travel and cruises. It might take a while but I don't think any of these are going away. After 9/11 people thought air travel would never return to what it was and yet till recently air travel was booming more than ever just more inconvenient and safer than before.

Online shopping is a disaster these days, totally crashed, most items aren't available and the ones that are will arrive in two weeks, Walmart.com is good enough just to let me know what they have in stock in Bayonne & Secaucus, forget about having necessities delivered in NYC.

I would say once the shopping centers reopens normally, people will start appreciate brick & mortar stores more than ever.

I'm not sold on that. In store isnt much better if looking for in demand stuff.

But you can't have those that are in stock, delivered.
Talking of Walmart, Instacart, Target etc. Even Amazon won't ship non essentials before April 23.

If so, I know people who will possibly enter the secular workforce.

Talk about the law of unintended consequences.

You're seriously telling me that there are people for whom the sole reason they don't enter the secular workforce is shaking hands? There are plenty in the secular workforce already who refrain from shaking hands - that's not a very good excuse.
