But you must bear in mind, that these peer pressure norms generally (true, it's not always, but normally) only lead to positive things happening. Therefore in a certain sense it is good for it to happen, but one then has to take these good things that he started, and find reason and purpose to them, and not only do them because of the peer pressure.

There are so many norms that don't necessarily makes you a better yid, sometimes it's the opposite. Think of our financial lifestyle, simchas etc.

Of course there are other areas that it is indeed beneficial. As the Rambam says;

In non-Jewish places (target, walmart etc..) they were but now all the Jews have stopped wearing them everywhere except all the non-Jews still are. I only saw one non-Jew in target yesterday without a mask. Even walking in the streets, you can now tell who is Jewish and who is not by virtue of the mask.

I'm not sure which Wal-Mart and Target you went to, but in the ones I've been to at least 80% of the Non-Jews were not wearing masks.
