Also, I think your due dilligence about where your tzedaka money is going should always correspond with how much you're giving. Don't be that guy who thoroughly examines the meshulach's vaad certificate and then finally approves it and gives him a quarter. If you're giving $5, $10 or $20 to one of these campaigns, then give, and Hashem will recognize your intentions even if one of these 20 campaigns ends up mismanaged.

As with any other time you're handing over money, increase your due diligence as your donation amount increases.

1. It’s a lot of work.
2. You need Rabbinic/financial oversight to define equal distribution. Should R”L a widow with teenage child get the same as R”L a widower with 8 children under age 11?

You can easily set up a formula (eg per dependent). Some people may end up getting less than they would have if given directly, but again - more would donate.

The idea of donating to a fund that distributed to needy is not new.

The idea of donating to a fund that distributed to needy is not new.

You'd lose the emotional triggers of connecting with a specific cause. Additionally, there's a lot of affinity fundraising and would not be anywhere as successful.
