Oy, what a sad sad story.
So far all I did was receive your money. But seriously, it is very special of you to participate in such a big way.
$14m wow
Quotes in a signature is annoying, as it comes across as an independent post.
In addition to $7.5 million from Areivim members, which poskim all consider tzedahah. https://hamodia.com/2020/04/28/reaffirms-commitment-mourning-families-amid-coronavirus-crisis/
How much money does Arevim have available?
They collect monthly from their members. I think it's $7 per orphan, and $7 for the widow if there are 3 or more children. The max a member pays is $28 per month, but collections roll over to as many months as necessary.
yes I am part of it, its been basically $28 monthly for a very long time.
It will take a years worth of 22k members paying $28/month to cover these $7.5mm. How many members do they have?
20,000+
That’s not much, considering they have other claims to cover as well. Another wave R”L could render them insolvent.
Last Thursday, Areivim convened two meetings, one of its governing board and another of its Rabbinical board, to discuss whether the organization should invoke a clause in its member contract that allows it to consider altering its payments to families in the event of a catastrophe that leads to a large loss of life at one time, such as an earthquake or war, R”l.
where can I see this
I'm a member and I'm more than willing to pay $28 per month to a group of verified, needy orphans and widows, for as long as it takes. I am a big fan of Areivim, and my respect only grew with this decision.
Yes but at some point it’s not possible to continue at this price, considering I’ve been paying $28 just about each month since I joined. The spike of deaths may mean needing toA) raise the priceB) raise membershipor C) not pay out for corona
I once saw that stats. I believe they collect about 6 or 7 months each year, on average. It can probably be looked up somewhere. It's also possible that they'll get large donations for corona.
