personally I wouldnt buy anything food related as used like new. However I saved a lot of money by buying such an item, it was simply a return, wasnt used at all but the box was cut open.. etc

Many times like new is open, but never used!
 Many items throughout the years I would buy open box and was brand new, it's a gamble.

Hence the reason I'll be more skeptic to order items like mixers and items that involve food!
   Only non food items.

Usually a piece of equipment used for food would not even be sold as used like new if it were actually used. Usually means open box, or even just a damaged box.
An exception may be a Keurig or such where you cant tell if it were used once or twice. I suppose a hot plate (and maybe even an urn) would be in the same category. But I can not imagine a crock pot or pan being sold as used like new if it where ever used.

Because you can't imagine it doesn't make it not occur.

You're at the whim of the seller, you can never be sure.
