Because one putting themselves in a terrible messy situation (at least here in NY) and putting their lives on the line while the other is just carrying business as always, with a little more caution.

As a nursing home admin, I'm competing with hospitals. Recruiters are calling my longtime RTs and RNs and offering a lot of money to work in the hospitals. Also, we are short staffed so those that do come in are working much harder then usual.

The government should step in. They are throwing money around everywhere so lets make sure those that are taking risks everyday get their fair share.

Thankfully I'm not so involved in that part of the business but I know that at least at the state level, the trade associations are in talks the government about it. Don't know what will be in the end but at least they are talking. In the meantime I need to try to keep my staff and give them enough of an incentive to come in.

At the end of the day, cost will just get passed onto the end user. Less demand- less supply- less jobs- more unemployment.
Not every company, but true for many. If struggling restaurants and caterers have to pay hazard pay, they'll just close up shop entirely. Maybe they should. Same goes for my line of work.

Still not sure why a restaurant worker, postal worker, etc should get hazard pay? If they don't want to work, let them go home. There are millions of other people that will take their place.

With every government program there is fraud involved, but giving money to everyone is necessary as some business owners (and their workers) are completely out of work. Why would we send our tax dollars just for people that work in risky environments.
