Passport applications and Passport Renewal

Got a new passport & the photo is light & blurry. Is this a new tech/security feature or is it a mistake ?

They are kind of orange tinged, though should not be too blurry. They are a little blurry though.

Looking for advice- I did online renewal for my wife's US passport as described in the group on June 6. When I look online it still says pending. I did regular, not expedited . This has been 9 weeks already. Should I wait longer or call them? Will calling them help or not? Thanks.

I received an email this AM that the passport shipped and the old one is inactivated.

I would have thought, but the day after I posted that comment I received the email that the passport was on its way and the old one was cancelled. So I never had to call them.

I renewed online on June 8th, got the shipped email yesterday, it's arriving on Friday.

A friend of mine has an appointment to apply for a new passport but will not be going. I need to renew my passport. Can I take his appointment?

I would have thought, but the day after I posted that comment I received the email that the passport was on its way and the old one was cancelled. So I never had to call them.

I applied non-expedited online for renewal on June 9, notified this Tuesday that it was mailed, received it today July 21.

At the 5 week mark the expedited (5-7 week processing) option becomes free. I added it to my order on Wednesday, and my passport shipped today!

how does one do that. I called and they told me I would need to pay.

I ordered my kids passport 8 weeks ago and am traveling in 2 weeks. The online tracking says processing. Any good ideas? (will call my congressman and call at 8am anything else)

To clarify: I applied online using the new system. I'm not aware of this option being available to those applying any other way.

You can only apply online if you previously had a 10 year passport. If he's 16 he's not eligible to apply online.

Your expired passport must have been valid for 10 years, or, if you were 15 years old or younger when it was issued, it must have been valid for 5 years. Also, the expired passport needs to be undamaged, unaltered, and in your possession. This exemption will be in effect through December 31, 2021.

I paid the 400 to the guy to get the appointment. Appointment went smoothly. Trip went smoothly. Good for 10 years. I guess now I gotta get one of those real IDs too so I don't have to bring the passport with me when I fly domestic.

Yeah, I was pretty bummed out about having to fork over the 400 bucks but it was a business trip and I had no choice. It was my fault for being lazy about renewing it. It expired a year and a half ago.
