Will there be Sleep Away Camp this summer?

I'm trying to determine the reason why they wouldn't want to self-report. Is it because there's money on the line?

I'm not questioning sending the kids to camp. I'm questioning how camps feel that it is ok to have sick kids in camp and not even test them so they can know what is going on. The responses to an outbreak can be debated, but to bury our collective heads in the sand and say it's better not to know? How is this ok?

Does anyone really think that herd-immunity is some sort of magic, that you get immunity bestowed on you if you were at 1 point part of a certain "herd". Obviously, if you don't have personal immunity and you are now part of a non-immune herd, you are susceptible.

They did not test. But they were in touch DOH who told them to stay open.

This is exactly the point many here have been trying to make regarding the "heard" immunity of the tri-states' Frum communities. They aren't true herds if you keep introducing more and more people from other communities.

That the herd doesn't get infected. Only helps the ציבור, not the יחיד when he is somewhere else. And I highly doubt that there's herd immunity in ny/nj frum communities as is.

That when one infected person has contact with a few locals (shopping in a local store) they likely came in contact with immune individuals or even if one of them was susceptible, their contacts were likely immune and therefore the spread chain comes to a dead end. However, if the infected person comes in contact with many people, like meshulachim going from door to door, "herd immunity" is useless. Similarly, in a camp that is not limited to "in-towners", or those that have personal immunity, herd-immunity, is useless.

Yep lately very quiet with the virus, seems it has vanished indeed

Not that much OOT'ers intrude most NY frum communities, keeping the herd safe so far b"h. Camps with claimed non reporting outbreaks likely do have a large OOT influx.

Yes & no. There is much more prolonged contact with the same people, but minimal to no contact with anyone else outside the camp.
