Is it true that the government will mail a check for the $1200 if one does not check the box that asks if you have a bank account?

Well they don't have your direct deposit info if you don't provide it...

Hmm...although I suppose they will if the mailed check is deposited to my bank account.  :-\

The IRS doesn't pull the info from there.

Call the TAS at 877-777-4778.
Update.  After many back and forth with this place they always just ended the conversation that give it 2 more weeks. After speaking to the irs seems like there was a possible id theft alert. I cleared that up with them and few weeks later I finally received my check!
But I'm still proud to be from clev!

Have any details? Is that per adult, or also for children?

Anything known right now is only what was leaked by aides to the news, and is slightly unreliable. As soon as it's introduced in the House for a vote, details will be public.

Question:

A relative of mine did not receive the first round of stimulus checks because he was not eligible based on 2018 tax returns (just about missed the cutoff) and had not yet filed 2019 which based on that he would be/is eligible.

He has since filed 2019 in July so can he still somehow get the first round now or that needs to wait for the 2020 return if that will be eligible? What about this current second round that is hopefully going to pass, are they still going to look at the 2018 return or will they now look at 2019 because it has since been filed?

Thanks.

Should be the latest filed return.

As of this moment, the only way to get it is on his 2020 return.
Now that they're hopefully issuing a new round, it's possible they'll start issuing checks again for the previous round as well, and he won't have to wait to file his 2020 return.

Assuming you mean for the new round it will be based on 2019 that was filed this summer?

"Negotiators have decided to provide stimulus checks worth $600 per person. The size of that benefit would be reduced for people who earned more than $75,000 the preceding year, similar to the last round of stimulus checks, according to two people who spoke on the condition of anonymity to share details of private deliberations. The stimulus checks would provide $600 per person, including adults and children, meaning a family of four would receive $2,400 up to a certain income."
"Adult dependents are not expected to qualify for the stimulus payments, people familiar with the negotiations said, despite a push from congressional Democrats."

Would child that was born in 2020 after the first stimulus package was passed, be eligible for the $500?
