Is your Shul Secretly Open Right Now?
« on: April 12, 2020, 01:01:29 PM »
I just confirmed what I knew to be true that my shteibel has been open for the Rabbi and his immediate family and his cousin and his immediate family who all live locally. I dont really have an issue with that. Except, now over yom tov there were at least 3 other people that joined the rabbi's minyan.   I also confirmed that  the other shteibel I daven in has been having daily minyanim too. I'm seriously considering not going back to these shuls after all of this is over. Dont really know what the alternatives are either.

Why not?

There are many mekoros that in time of need we go to shul to daven.

If you disagree you can just not attend.

I personally know of ppl that stayed home for many weeks and got the virus.

It is sad that a post office can have 40 ppl sometimes close together because its called essential by government while our shuls have to he closed even with proper social distancing.
Always praying for delayed baggage.

Poll needs NYC or OOT options.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Saw my neighbor walking into his house yesterday at 12pm clutching his Tallis bag. Not sure where he went though

Added a few options. PMs are asking for me to delete. If you deem it deleteable as it gives fodder to AntiSemites please do so.

This is not dependent upon DDD; it is much more basic. It is a cha'shash pikuach nefesh, and in certain cities (at least), the rabonim have paskened not to do it.

Who said it's illegal?
Did you read the actual text of the executive order? Nothing bans religious gatherings with proper social distancing.

The federal government did not ban it and the constitution would void such  an order that would do so. Social distancing in a grocery and USPS can be done but not outside in your backyard or in a shul.

I know of a very  recognized shul with a huge hall that has a guard that limits the amount of ppl entering and every one is spread out. Also no older ppl allowed in.

There are very well recognized rabinim I personally heard say you can make a minyan outside. They wont say so publicly because they are being terrorized.

Who decides which people get to come to shul and which dont. As a matter of practicality any shul I know of cannot properly social distance. Its just not practical. Just like the outside minyanim. I will post video of the minyanim in front of my house.

Sorry, but if it's important enough, there will be a leader who will stand up publicly and say to make outdoor minyanim. I've only seen rabbonim asser it, with one going as far as saying that participating gives you the din of rotzeach.

How can I vote for more than one shul?
My shul a few blocks away did one thing, but my neighborhood did something else

You should do what ur Rav tells you.

But think about it for a minute.

A Grocery Store is OK.
USPS is OK.
WallMart OK.
Target OK.

Shull not ok.

Maybe we shall be open with proper cleaning and distancing guidance in place where enforcement is stricter then USPS or Target.
