Build - rebuild crumbling us infastructure
« on: April 12, 2020, 04:35:18 PM »
I was thinking that with the country shut down and the economy in ruins.

Could we maybe rebuild the entire USA roads, bridges, airports, trains etc ?

How will you deal with union workers? Because if it's being built with union workers then it'll still be overpriced and delayed.

Maybe with all the people out of jobs...
I'm not who you think I am.

Construction workers can't exactly tele-commute

No but now that you have no traffic whether on the roads or in the sky. A lot of projects would be much easier

Kind of hard to do... Between the actual workers doing the rebuilding, plus the workers creating the materials, and the workers doing logistics and transportation, that's a lot of people not staying at home.

New deal 2.0?

Bringing manufacturing back to the USA will be better both in the short term and in the long term.

Hopefully this will end soon, at most a couple of months. Most large infrastructure projects take years.
That's not factoring that it takes  months or years to get a project started. By the time you finish with the engineering everything will be back to normal.

here in South Florida we had a number of infrastructure issues mostly pertaining to sewage and they were causing major bottleneck traffic.

When I passed this projects recently with almost no traffic on the road I was just thinking how so many of these projects can get moving while everybody is sheltering in place

Part of the road jobs are drivers in different trucks, social distancing fully.

I'm just thinking that some jobs that will take a month in would normally cost a lot of problems would be easy to do now

All state coffers are depleted these days...no money left for road repairs when they’re buying vents...

This is what Israel is doing. They completed the speed train 4 months early (from projections late last year) and are extending it now to Hertzilya.

Offer incentives to finish early.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

The 2008 financial crisis was wasted without a major infrastructure bill coming out of it. Let's hope that this time the crisis doesn't get wasted and we indeed get a major infrastructure upgrade in this country.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Way too much money gets wasted in the US with the Ds vying for the unions and the Rs vying for the construction conglomerates.

Source?

When Israel Railways starts operating again, where is the high speed train going until?
