And much calmer than having police and others dictating what you can do and when you should do it with 2 hour slots etc.
Until they show up and start issuing summonses. Wouldn't you love to have pictures of the wedding in the national press just like Cousin Lemel's bar mitzva?

That’s really extravagant! That’s half a full priced wedding in Bais Faiga.

Fine so when the police show up try to convince them that it is legal.

Yes, but how much of the cost remains the same no matter how small?

It's only 2 hours. One man band. Food for 20(?) people. It's a LOT of money for not a lot

They can make 6 a day in the hall, and presumably many weddings are sharing the same florist/music etc.

As heard from a florist who has been in touch with them.

Even more reason for backyard (where legal/possible). That's absurd for immediate family only.

Bais faiga is also a one man band. The cooking staff needs to cook whether there are 20 or 200 people. The flowers in Bais Faiga are silk. I would imagine that there are additional logistical costs including having "law enforcement" running the whole mazel tov line up. Yes some things are less but others more. This hall is in general more than Bais Faiga too.

Why would you need the same cooking staff and food for 20 as 200?

You don't need the same but you need some and you need the kitchen running. I understand that it is less, but you may be overestimating by how much.

If they are really going to do 6 weddings a day as stated upthread you would think the kitchen staff costs should't be that high. Florist musician and photographer also shouldn't be full price. That being said the police aren't volunteering their services. From what I understand it's not cheap.

A backyard wedding isn't free either unless bubby is cooking, uncle yankel taking pictures etc. I doubt flower gmachs are open either.

The value of your wedding not being featured in the APP- Priceless.

I don't know that they will actually have 6 weddings a day. I find that unlikely.

Maybe someone should work with the authorities to get clear written guidelines about what is/isn't legal for a backyard wedding so that there isn't this issue

Kinda hard to get that (especially in writing) for the general public when the published guidelines are too strict to allow weddings at all.

What this hall did is get an exception arranged (probably had to have political pull to make it happen), and it’s an exception that you can’t quickly (and legally) replicate in your own backyard.

So the discussion of backyard vs this option is irrelevant if backyard isn't an option.

I was responding based on the impression that it's legal under certain circumstances but

So that's why you are paying for.

Well wouldnt you know, you can get married without them. And the kiddushin is valid. And they can actually live life normally without it. I always look back to my grandparents wedding in 1950. My grandmother and her sister got married on the same day and shared the same dress. If that was good enough for her back then i dont see why these minimized weddings cant be good enough now. I didnt know this fact until about 3 years ago.
My parents got married in 1959.  In a hall with a band. And a photographer. And flowers.
And they weren't out of the ordinary.
Your grandmother's family were (probably) poor immigrants.

Still, 50 years before that they wouldn’t have. His point stands, all of us at different points got sucked in to this whirlpool of “needing” to meet yenem’s standard.
