Is this rumor true? If yes.....
« on: September 16, 2009, 08:08:39 PM »
Hi Guys,

Is it true that getting 1M miles into your advantage account (even miles from a credit card or so) makes you gold for life, and 2M Platinum for life?

My question is: Did anyone experience that already?

If yes, how long do the miles need to be within the account in order for this to happen?

Is there anything else I should know about this?

Thanks for replying.

Hi Guys,

Is it true that getting 1M miles into your advantage account (even miles from a credit card or so) makes you gold for life, and 2M Platinum for life?

Yep as far as I know AA is the only Carrier that doesnt care how you got the 1MM or 2MM, meaning if you can charge 2m on a Citi AA CC thats it you are Plat for Life

other Carriers have LifeTime also but count only BIS (Butt In Seat Miles or EQMs)

Once you reach 1M thats it you are LT Gold, you dont need to have 1m in the acct at any 1 time, only that over the yrs 1m have been credited to your acct = you can have accumulated say 999,999 and used them all up having 0 in the acct , then charge $1 in gas and when that statement closes and Citi transfers that 1 mile to your acct, you will have 1 mile in your acct and be LT Gold since taht 1 mile would make a lifeTime 1m that was credited to your acct

Yes it works and Im closing in on 3m and if lucky I fly 2000 actual miles a yr on AA and still every year get my Plat Card = no bag fees 8-)

My question is: Did anyone experience that already?

If yes, how long do the miles need to be within the account in order for this to happen?

Is there anything else I should know about this?

Thanks for replying.

there is recent talk that aa is trying to put the bag on this one.but is figuring out what to do with those that received it already-as for the fact that it wouldnt seem fair.....even though this whole benefit is totally unpublished so they are not obligated(some say as quick as 2010 we may see a change-but highly doubtful).

so dan,you may not be plat for life after all ;D

Id be very surprised if AA would retroatively go back and cancel out any LifeTime Status given already to anyone, even if not earned solely by flying

I can see AA putting an end to it by changing the T&Cs to read it can be earned Only via EQMs earned, but leaving everyone who already have it with it. And allowing what ever a person has accumulated thus far towards the 1mm or 2mm alone and only make them earn teh rest via EQMs

But in this Time , I learnt Never to say Never

I read through the 2 'manuals', thanks for that Dan.

You state somewhere within the manual,  (I'm not sure of the daf), that it should say somewhere how far away I'm from the next level (or level for life).

I would think that I would see it on the my account section, once logged in, however I dont.

Any idea.

the address looks like this:

https://www.aa.com/aa/myAccount/myAccountAccess.do

oh, okay, I was looking for something clickable, guess I'm jet lagged from the slichos...

I opened this account recently + I don't have a SSN, so I cannot bulk apply for credit cards with singup bonus without first annual fee...     :(

my other accounts are currently (might be a bit off)

M&M: 1M+
DC: 500k+
Privilege: 300k+
etc

PS: something else, where can I learn why starwoods is so expensive, besides for the fact that it adds 20% upon conversion, its still very expensive.

As AA goes generally for 1.6 as a standard, so starwoods should have been 2.0 (+20%), but its not like that, they want much more.

What is the pshat?

(by the way, my request for several million starwoods isnt for me personally)

Not my AA account, but that's obvious if you read all the "new unread messages".

It doesn't answer my question.

You would get back to be for the 285.000 AA, no?
