Self employed no business or revenue for the last few weeks. Didnt get EIDL grant and not eligible for PPP. Denied NYS UIB and told to fill out PUA. Didnt get Stimulus check because only 2018 on file without DD info. Thank You Hashem for budgeting and tenants that can still pay rent.

Im self employed and no income for a few weeks.
Wife's employer paid first 2 weeks, now changing his mind. Hoping for the best.
Stimulus check not received, filed 2018 without DD and didn't file 2019 yet.

Thank you Hashem, that me and my wife are healthy and happy.
And thank you Hashem for the signal, that you are actually the one feeding me for the past 25 years.

In NJ you can go into unemployment for reduced hours. Check your state.

A couple questions if anyone knows the answers:

1) Laid off this week from job in NY which makes our income go down significantly, but will receive a few months severance. If I take the severance, I have to wait to file unemployment, correct? I believe my work said I could file unemployment now to benefit from extra $600, and when it finishes collect my severance from them.
2) Wife is a teacher in NJ, and let's just say I dont get a new job for awhile but I do get the $1,100 or so from both unemployments, has anyone looked into low cost insurance plans like NJ Family Daycare and can explain how they work with timing of being laid off, how good they are, etc. Once my benefits end in a few months, Cobra is cost prohibitive, and my wife's plan as a teacher isn't great either at the school she works at, and we'd need a cheaper option, but I've never had to research this before.

Thoughts? Anyone go through this that can help?

I believe the extra unemployment due to covid had an option for reduced hours, so even if you didn't qualify for regular unemployment, that might work.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Can only answer re: insurance....

This thread might help https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=12887.0

You can check eligibility here: http://www.njfamilycare.org/income.aspx (there's a chart because it varies for adults/children, and children may be eligible but with copays and/or premiums depending on your income.

The most important thing is to check if your doctors take any of the HMOs. There are a few you get to choose from and your whole family needs to be on the same one. Hopefully there will be at least one they all take, and then you're all set. If not it gets more complicated. EG: if you don't have a PCP you can choose to pay a doctor to visit them for regular sick visits (this is probably cheaper than insurance) but if you ever need a specialist, even if they take your HMO, you'll need to get a referral from your PCP according to jersey care (which may mean finding a doctor to go to just for the referral, and first choosing them as your PCP).

The nice thing is that (depending on your income and family size) there may be no premiums/copays (and if there are, they are not very expensive), and there's never a deductible/OOP.

If for some reason you don't qualify, the next step would be healthcare.gov marketplace, if you were recently laid off and lost insurance then you should qualify for special enrollment. There are lots of options and depending on your income you may qualify for financial assistance. From my experience more doctors take those plans than the jersey care plans, but it's worth checking before you enroll in anything.

Good luck!
