This can be argued the other way around:
In the US if your elected officials are found to be inept/corrupt, they can be voted out of office and replaced by equally inept/corrupt officials. The Great American Political System will live on, and only those who get the blame will take the fall.
In China it’s all about how the regime is perceived, and if the Chinese people lose faith in their government, the entire CCP goes down. The “truth” in China (that COVID) is gone, is only because of all the other shenanigans being swept under the rug, lord knows how many people really died there because of COVID.
