Should American citizens scheduled to fly to Israel July 28 with EL AL bother getting passports -
or does it look like 1) EL AL won't be flying then, 2) Israel won't allow in non-citizens, 3) or they will be quarantined upon entry rendering their trip worthless?

Personally i would make sure my family has valid passports at all times.
If i were in your shoes, i would bet on non citizens being allowed in by late July.

Don't think they will implement #2 if #3 is still in place.

i do the same although its expensive especially for kids 5 year renewal. galus mentality.

One thing for sure- don't leave your passports in the bank vault! you can't get them in an emergency on a weekend or now for months.

I'm talking about getting new passports not renewals.
That's another question which I posted in a different thread - with all the delays, if they apply for passports now will they get it in 12 1/2 weeks or not?

I doubt anyone can answer your question. Here's an idea - if you can travel to TLV by end of July the passport offices will probably be open by then for you to go and get it in person.

You can't access your bank vault now?

No, my branch is closed. I didn't ask them to get in, but assumed it's not available.

True, but it takes 6-8 weeks to process which may be too long.
Hence, I'm unsure if they should apply now and hope it's ready in 12 weeks or wait for applications to officially open and pay extra for rush processing.

No one else is chiming in, but i wouldn't send birth certificates now to an office that is closed. Then you will be stuck. I'd wait to see if the flight is going, and if it is, more likely an office will be open that you can go to and get a same day or few day processing.

Thank you for your thoughts.
However, it does seem that a standard passport application can be switched to expedited even after the application was submitted. See this link -
https://www.us-passport-service-guide.com/can-i-expedite-a-passport-application-after-submitting-a-standard-renewal-application.html
So, maybe they should just apply now and if it gets much closer and applications are being processed it can be switched then to expedited.
What do you think?

Possibly can see Israel testing at airport of departure to tlv. Especially for the summer, difficult to give up the billions in tourism.

Question is who will pay for it.

The one tested, presumably

That's what they're doing in Vienna. But are they desperate for tourists like Israel is? (I know that plane tickets aren't cheap to begin with, but not sure if people will be interested in the additional cost, either.)
